Miss Gabi being a typical puppy. She loves to cuddle with her littermates. She is doing great. Gaining weight no signs of raspiness when she nurses or takes her bottle. Every 2 hours we are offering her a bottle to top her off incase she gets tired more easily nursing. We gained 40 grams since yesterday. Average for puppies is 30 grams.

Everyone welcome “Gabriella “ I decided to call her Gabi for short! 🩷🩷

It is a Hebrew name that has the meaning "God is my strength." This name embodies strength and determination with a strong purpose.

When I first saw Gabi I was heart broken because I thought to myself why us? We haven’t produced a clefty ever in 36 years. But God reminded me why not us. We have every means to care for her and give her what she needs to survive.

Gabi is simply amazin so far. We were tube feeding her every 2 hours till I heard her nursing off her momma. I weighed her and weighed her after she nursed and she actually was able to suckle and she got about 10-15 cc of milk on her own. I am supplementing her with a special ni**le but she is showing no signs of aspiration at all. She isn’t raspy in her chest at all. We will continue to monitor her and let her just stay with her litter and mom as usual.

We have talked with two rescues who deal with cleftys and both say we are doing things right and let her stay. If the time comes that we feel we aren’t doing enough for her we have backup plans.

Her cleft is just the top lip and extends into the bottom part of nose but it does not involve any part of the soft top palate thank goodness.

Gabi gained 50 grams last night gaining more weight than her littermates.

Well we have our very first cleft lip girl. The placenta was what we call zonary placenta and wrapped around her face and head which I don’t know is what caused it. Not here for rescue but I need names.

She will see a surgeon when the time comes and then placed for adoption if suitable.

We came outside for the picture to get a better look. This girl has great latching and this doesn’t affect her ability to nurse thank goodness. It is all cosmetic. So comment ⬇️ with some Great names.
