WARNING: GRAPHIC AND INCLUDES BLOOD Today, our veterinary team performed surgery on a cat diagnosed with Pyometra, a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus.
Pyometra can progress quickly and requires prompt veterinary attention. Treatment typically involves surgical removal of the infected uterus and ovaries, along with appropriate supportive care.
Please watch both videos for a comparison between a normal-sized uterus and a uterus affected by pyometra. The difference can be striking and helps demonstrate how this infection can cause the uterus to become enlarged and filled with infected fluid.
❤️ Know the warning signs!
These may include:
🐾 Lethargy or weakness
🐾 Decreased appetite
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Increased thirst and urination
🐾 Abdominal swelling or vaginal discharge
Some cats may show very subtle signs, so early veterinary evaluation is essential.
Spaying your cat is the most effective way to prevent pyometra. If your cat is unspayed and showing any concerning symptoms, please contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
A big thank-you to our dedicated veterinary team for providing compassionate care to our feline patients! 🐈⬛💕
