I got so busy I forgot to share these. Blue came over for the weekend and we had a little fun at the river until the rain decided to pour. She said water on the ground is good, but the sky water on the other hand is not 😂

Guess who is 100% after her last cardiac checkup at Auburn today?? This girl! A perfect recovery and a completely normal dog despite her rocky start to life. Thank you Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine for the care and compassion.

Guess who’s here for a visit!
Blue is hanging with me for the week while her family takes a well deserved beach vacay. I’m soaking up all the snuggles this week. 💕

Little miss Maverick now Blue is doing great! Her last checkup for her heart is in June, but you would never know by her behavior that she had major heart surgery just 3 months ago. She is speed and she is wild. 💕

Maverick, renamed Blue, has gone home! She went to some very close family friends and I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait for her coat to come back and those whispies to blend 😂.

This little wild thing is impossible to get pictures of. I wish I had some of her energy🤣. She’s making up for that crate rest recovery time

Little Maverick is officially 👀
She’s 17 weeks old and getting her last round of puppy vaccines this week.
Maverick was born with a condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosis, basically a hole in her heart that should have closed naturallly at birth did not close. This condition is completely fixable and fix it we did. She recovered absolutely beautifully and is not expected to have any long term effects. She has one more checkup on her heart in June ( which I am taking care of 😉) .
Maverick is spunky and sassy. She’s well crate trained but due to her required significant crate rest post op she is not fully potty trained, however she’s very eager to please and I don’t think this will take much to accomplish.
I expect her to be 9-11lbs at maturity.
If you would like to know more about Maverick please reach out. These are a collection of photos however I have not gotten any recent ones but I’m going to try and do that tomorrow so I will update then.

Sweet girl is home! I hadn’t had a chance to post but she came home Thursday doing great. The surgery went literally as well as it possibly could have and her prognosis is great. Once her recovery period is over (6-8 weeks) she will have no lasting effects and will live a normal life. No heart medications were needed post op and her heart is doing great.

So I have some news I want to share with our latest little singleton girl. Transparency is really important to me and I also found this to be a great opportunity to learn so I’m sharing for that reason as well.

On her first vet visit at 6 weeks, all was well. However at her 9 week checkup our vet found a very serious heart murmur. There’s a condition in puppies called patent ductus arteriosis and that’s what we were pretty sure she had. You can read a lot of info online but basically it’s a heritable condition that results in a hole in the heart. This condition is treatable with an exponentially expensive surgery. As far as the genetics go, this is not a condition that has an available test, the science just is not there yet unfortunately. What we do know is that it’s recessive and these two dogs (Moon and Loki) can not and will not ever be bred together again.

Our sweet baby girl went in for her surgery first thing this morning at Auburns teaching hospital and the surgery was a success! We are not fully out of the woods but if she recovers without any issues she will live a fairly normal life. I’m beyond grateful for the folks at Auburn who have taken such amazing care of her. I’ll get to bring her home tomorrow and she will need strict rest for 6-8 weeks but I’m just so happy she’s going to be okay.

Things like this are why we always have veterinary check ups before puppies go home and I’m so glad we caught this before she left. Wish us the best in her recovery 🥰
