Even tho Thor looks like a bedraggled polar bear that was left in the dryer too long, you won’t find a happier guard dog than him during his morning routine with his beloved goats Thor will be turning 12 in February. As you can see, I got the mat off his tail and am working on his other dreadlocks as he lets me. Which isn’t often. He used to let me groom him when he was younger but has become very much stuck in his ways now We give him arthritis meds every evening and that helps him a lot as he is still in charge of day shift. When I say he’s moving into a soft retirement, he’s moving very slowly. I personally don’t think he’ll ever fully retire, he simply loved his job too much Good thing Sven the apprentice is there so he does feel comfortable taking breaks and naps throughout the day. Olaf is night duty so he watches the does leave, eats his breakfast, and then promptly goes to sleep. We lock the does up in their dry lot at night with a barn full of hay so that it’s another barrier against predators. Then the guard dogs have free-run of the ranch at night. In the mornings, we let them out in their pasture and it’s everyone’s favorite part of the day
