Pictured is one of our client's new hunting dogs. Noticed how her ears are shaved short but the mohawk was kept. Apparently cocker spaniels are good at flushing out birds. Who knew?

This is BZ and his owner Dylan. We want to share this photo because 1) the color coordination is on point and 2) BZ is a fearful guy who has needed sedation for his visits previously. But through many positive outings with his owner, slow and quiet vet visits and the help of some pre visit pharmaceuticals, BZ was relaxed throughout his (non sedated) visit today.
If you have a nervous, fearful or high anxiety pet there are many options for having successful veterinary visits. If you want to know more, call your vet!

There has been some recent news reports involving rabies and due to our close proximity to wildlife in our area, here is a refresher on the disease and why we vaccinate your pets.

Human rabies cases remain rare in the US but there has been an increase in reported cases in animals as of this last summer. 90% of rabies cases are found in bats, racoons, skunks and foxes. In Klickitat county, bats are the most common reason for exposure but contact with skunks holds a high risk as well.

If you come in physical contact/are bitten by a wild animal, especially one that is acting unusually for it's species (such as a bat out in the open during the day), it should be reported to your physician or the health department. If your pet is exposed or bitten by an animal that is suspected or confirmed of having rabies and is vaccinated, they should receive a booster within 96 hours of exposure, followed by home confinement and observation for 45 days. If they are not vaccinated euthanasia is strongly recommended. If the owner declines, the pet requires a strict 4-month quarantine and a rabies vaccination given within 96 hours of exposure. The only way to confirm rabies in an animal is by testing of the brain tissue.

In Washington State, the first rabies vaccination given to your dog should be boosted after one year and subsequent vaccinations boosted every 3 years there after. Cats require a one year booster after the first vaccine and subsequent vaccines are given every 1 or 3 years (depending on whether they receive the adjuvanted or adjuvant-free version).

If you would like to know if your pet is up to date on vaccines or is due, call your vet!

These two sisters were in for their spay procedures today and gave us all the photo ops! They wanted reunited immediately after waking up and snuggled the afternoon away.

Edited to add another adorable picture of this expressive little guy!

Jimmy Dean belongs to one of our staff members and came in for an exam recently. He was mostly quiet but when he meows, he does so with his whole self!
