Don’t throw away pumpkins after Halloween. Find woods or a field near you, smash them open and leave for the wildlife to eat. Pumpkin is safe for them and the seeds act as a natural dewormer.

LEFT TO DIE...LITERALLY

This little angel was dumped behind our building in New Orleans. My guess is that they were trying to avoid our security cameras and employees. I just don't get why people do this. We don't shame people. We don't yell at people trying to get rid of their dogs. Quite the opposite actually.

If not for one of our employees walking past that part of the building, this little angel would've died within hours.....she was in "caval"

Caval syndrome is a progressed condition of heartworm disease. When the heartworm parasite has become too populous in the pulmonary artery of an infected dog, they can migrate into the vena cava, right atrium, and right ventricle of the heart. This is a life-threatening condition that causes issues ranging from jaundice and anemia to liver dysfunction, heart failure, and death.

When it gets to this point, you literally have "minutes" (and if you're lucky hours) to get the dog to the vet before they basically "implode from the inside out" and blood explodes out of every or***ce. Yes, I'm being graphic because I want you to know how serious this is. It is nothing short of a horror movie when it happens. And all because a dog did not receive heartworm prevention.

The surgery to save a dog in this condition is hit n' miss. The vet has to literally cut into the dog's vein and pull out the heartworms one by one so that they can un-clog the artery. And I apologize for being so graphic but this itty bitty girl's life depends on it so if my words can stress how deadly heartworm is and how easy it is to prevent it, then I will hold no punches.

I know times are tough for everyone. But, "if" you can spare a dollar, a penny, anything, "Amor" (meaning "to love" in Spanish) would appreciate the help towards her vet bill.
