Dog Tag Buddies

Dog Tag Buddies Dog Tag Buddies is dedicated to providing veterans with hidden injuries the opportunity to lead more fulfilling lives through partnerships with dogs.

Dog Tag Buddies is an integrative therapeutic program providing improved daily living and social mobility for veterans living with the invisible wounds of war. The program is focused on helping veterans live more fulfilling lives through training and building a relationship with their service dog. This helps them find methods to recognize and manage the symptoms of their disabilities, discourages

self-isolation, and helps find a renewed sense of purpose. Dog Tag Buddies is a 501(c)3 designated non profit organization. All donations are tax deductible and all services are provided at no charge to qualified veterans.

In Flanders fields, the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago, we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow. Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
in Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die we shall not sleep, though poppies grow
in Flanders fields.
By John McCrae

Veterans walking beside their service dogs. Kiddos handing out candy and waving flags. Neighbors lining the streets. And underneath it all, remembering the why. 🇺🇸

Dog Tag Buddies was honored to participate in the 2nd Annual Billings Rotary Memorial Day Parade today.

While the parade was filled with smiles, wagging tails, and community spirit, Memorial Day carries a deeper meaning.

Today, we honor the men and women who gave everything in service to this country, and we remember the families who carry that loss every day.

We are grateful to stand beside veterans still fighting the invisible wounds of war and proud to help them regain connection, purpose, and social mobility through the journey of training service dogs.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the parade, cheer on the teams, and help keep the meaning of Memorial Day alive. ❤️🤍💙

The Dog Tag Buddies float just needs a few final touches tomorrow morning, and then we’re ready to roll! 🇺🇸

Join us tomorrow at 10 AM for the 2nd Annual Billings Rotary Memorial Parade — a meaningful event united around two important purposes: honoring the fallen service members who gave everything for our country, and celebrating the veterans’ advocacy organizations doing critical, life-changing work in our communities.

With your support, this Memorial Parade will continue to grow into one of Montana’s signature events. We hope to see you there!

We were honored to present a plaque and challenge coins to the Fraternal Order of Eagles 176, Fraternal Order of Eagles 176 Auxiliary, and Fraternal Order of Eagles 176 Eagle Riders in recognition of their incredible support of our mission. 🇺🇲🐾

Through their tireless efforts and dedication to our veterans, they have raised more than $10,000 to help us continue providing service dogs to those who have served our country.

Community impact begins with a single pebble and grows into a powerful wave of support. We are deeply grateful to stand beside organizations that believe in making a difference together. ❤️

Please help us welcome our newest teams! 🇺🇸🐾

This week, three veterans and pups began their journey together. Over the course of a day and a half, they spent time meeting the available dogs, learning the foundations of the program, and ultimately being paired with their new furry best friend.

While this journey may not always be easy, this week marked the beginning of something powerful — a ripple of healing, trust, connection, and hope that will continue to grow far beyond these first moments together.

We can’t wait to watch these teams grow side by side. ❤️

This week, Dog Tag Buddies joined five other incredible service dog organizations in Washington, D.C. as guests of Purina Dog Chow to advocate for the veterans we serve every single day.

We walked the halls of Congress.

We sat down with lawmakers, congressional staffers, and leaders on both sides of the aisle.

We participated in Senate and House briefings focused on psychiatric service dogs, veteran mental health, barriers to care, accountability within the VA, and the growing funding crisis impacting organizations doing this work nationwide.

Most importantly, we brought real stories into those rooms.

Stories of veterans fighting to reconnect with their families.

Stories of isolation, hypervigilance, and invisible wounds that don’t disappear when the uniform comes off.

Stories of service dogs helping veterans regain structure, purpose, confidence, and social mobility.

We also brought the research.
The data.
The outcomes.
The proof that properly trained psychiatric service dogs are changing lives.

What stood out most this week was this: when people truly hear the stories and understand the need, they lean in.

This issue should never be political. Supporting veterans should never depend on party lines.

We are incredibly grateful to Purina Dog Chow for creating space for these conversations and for helping amplify the voices of service dog organizations and the veterans we serve.

We are also thankful to the lawmakers and staffers who took the time to listen, ask questions, and engage in meaningful discussion about the future of psychiatric service dogs and veteran care.

The work is far from over, but this week felt important.

One conversation at a time.

One office at a time.

One veteran at a time.

There’s something powerful about leaders who are willing to listen, lean in, and engage.

A huge thank you to Wyoming’s congressional delegation, Senator Cynthia Lummis, John Barrasso, and Rep. Harriet Hageman, for welcoming representatives from Montana's Dog Tag Buddies, Purina Dog Chow, and Got Your Six PTSD Support Dogs, to their Wyoming Coffee.

We came with important conversations surrounding veterans, service dogs, and the future of programs supporting those living with the invisible wounds of war. They listened thoughtfully, asked questions, and most importantly, offered support and a willingness to help move solutions forward.

Advocacy work can be exhausting at times, but moments like this matter. They remind us that bipartisan conversations, collaboration, and genuine engagement still exist, and that veterans are best served when people are willing to come to the table together.

Grateful for the opportunity to be heard and for leaders who recognize that supporting veterans transcends state lines and politics.

Because this work is bigger than any one organization. It’s about ensuring veterans have access to the tools, support, and social mobility they deserve.
