Pets are for life……. Don’t adopt otherwise

A SAD STORY 💔

This picture is the reality of surrendering your dog. Do you know what Bella did? She did nothing, she was surrendered bc her family was having a baby. Guess why she is greyed out? She is gone she has now crossed over the rainbow bridge. Guess why? Not because she had any behavior issue or even because she was scared, but because she got sick. She got a uri all because she was stuck in a shelter because her family surrendered her 😭. She was only 2 years old and when she came through those doors was happy and healthy. She should have lived a long happy life but instead she was robbed of that!

This is Bella’s story but this is the story of many owner surrenders. If they don’t lose their life from being sick they do from being scared and ending up on the behavior list. Her story needs to be shared so maybe the next person will reconsider surrendering their pet. They are living animals with feelings and a souls and do not deserve this. It is said dogs even care more about their humans than humans can even care about them. Let that sink in.

Humans please do better by your pets quit letting them sacrifice their lives for your convenience. If you can’t care for an animal their whole life through the good and the bad please don’t get one because this is not fair to them! They are not a stuffed animal you can just throw out.

Please take a moment to share and remember sweet Bella. She deserved better. Fly high and run free sweet girl. 😭💔🌈

They didn’t take her home.
They planned her ending.

On a quiet Monday morning, a family walked into our shelter with their nine-year-old English Bulldog.

Dad did the talking.
Mom avoided eye contact.
The kids never came inside.

“Reason for surrender:” Doesn’t fit our lifestyle.
“Behavior problems:” None.
“Time with family:” Nine years.

Nine years of loyalty.
Nine years of watching over them, of slow, steady tail wags at the door, of laying beside them through long nights and loud storms.
Nine years of being their dog.

And in less than ten minutes… she became just another kennel number.

We named her Diesel.

It didn’t feel right for her to keep a name tied to people who could leave her behind so easily.

When her owner knelt down to say goodbye, Diesel lit up.

Her tail wagged.
Her whole body wiggled with that familiar bulldog sway.
She gently placed her paws on his chest, looking up with those soft, trusting eyes.

She thought it was just another trip.
She thought she was going home.

He handed me the leash.

And he walked away… without looking back.

At first, Diesel waited by the gate.

Ears perked.
Tail slowing.
Eyes locked on the door.

Then… she stopped.

She looked at me.

And in that moment—you could see it.

Her heart understood something her mind couldn’t.

She didn’t bark.
She didn’t growl.
She didn’t fight.

She just… shut down.

She walked to the back corner of the kennel.
Curled into herself.
Head low. Eyes dim.

For days, she barely moved.

No sound.
No excitement.
Just silence… and heartbreak.

A note on her file read:
“Euthanasia if no placement.”

Because she was older.
Because she was an English Bulldog.
Because people overlook dogs like her every single day.

On the fourth day, I sat beside her.

No pressure.
No words.
Just presence.

Ten minutes.
Twenty.

And then… slowly…

She leaned.

Not fully.

Just enough for her trembling body to touch my leg.

That tiny, fragile moment said everything.

She hadn’t stopped loving.

She was just waiting for someone who wouldn’t leave.

Diesel is no longer on that list.

This weekend, a quiet couple is coming to meet her.

They said, “We’re not looking for a puppy. We’re looking for a companion.”

Please remember this:

English Bulldogs don’t stop loving when they get older.
They don’t understand “lifestyle changes.”
They don’t forget the people they gave their whole heart to.

They just love. Fully. Deeply. Forever.

Diesel gave nine years of loyalty.

She deserves the rest of her life with someone who finally chooses to stay.

If this story moved you even a little… share it.

Because somewhere tonight, a dog like Diesel is sitting in a kennel, staring at a door that will never open again…

still hoping it will. 💔

1/09/26 Is this anyones kitten?
Friendly female calico short hair kitten was found about a week ago in the Billings Heights near Bitterroot. No mom cat or littermates seen. The finder posted on line (I cant find it). They said they were declined when tried to take it to a shelter. Kitten is approx 4-5 months old, super social, no collar, no ID tag, or chip. Not sure if spayed yet. We need to know if she has an owner. If not claimed, she will get spayed (if needed), vaccinated, chipped etc and adopted out. Please reach out if this is your kitten, or know who might own her. Proof of ownership required as usual.

"A poem from a pound dog….
Today is the day that I shall die
My life was short and I don't know why
I don't yet know that this will be my fate
The humans just stood there at my gate
And in their eyes I saw their sorrow
They told me I had no more time to borrow
My 7 days have been and gone
I'm yet to know what I've done wrong
I greeted the humans with a waggling tail
But with their resolve seemed to fail
I did not understand why they cried
They told me again that they had tried
But rescues are full and I'm on death row
And this meant that I had nowhere to go
Except from that room at the end of the block
It was only then that I took stock
I've seen others go in and never come out
And it was at this point that I had no doubt
Today was the day that I would die
And yet I still did not understand why
As they led me kindly into that room
I knew my life would be over soon
The needle comes out and the drugs take effect
The humans hold me kindly with respect
This is the end, I'm going to die
And then suddenly I understood why
I was bred without a care, without thought or reason
Only because my mum came into season
I was bred to be sold, bred for money
At first my new family thought my antics were funny
But as the days passed by and the bigger I grew
Left home alone all day I began to chew
Soon they said this is not the place for me
So up went my ad onto Gumtree
Family dog free to a good home
Five months old and no fault of her own
Next, the place was even less fun
Kept in a cage with no hope of a run
Soon came the day of my first season
And now I was the one bred without reason
My pups were soon sold and I was alone
I really hope they have all found a loving home
Shut up in a cage alone and in the dark
For hours on end, I would just bark
Once again I became too much trouble
So up went my ad on Gumtree
The double work commitments forces sale
Only 10 months old, it’s a familiar tale
The next people seemed nice at first
But it was not long before the bubble burst
In this place, I was trained to fight
But they gave up on that as I refused to bite
They spoke to me as I was taken back to the crate
If you won't fight, we'll use you as bait
I was chained to a post by my collar
When other dogs attacked I would holler
This life went on like this for quite some time
But I was soon told I was past my prime
I thought we might have been going for a walk
Yet in the car was no talk
And slowly the car came to a halt
I was thrown out the door with a jolt
I stood and watched as the car sped away
It was cold and dark and I had nowhere to stay
It was by this road that I was eventually found
And was taken away by the local pound
And here I lie as I take my last breath
I have one thing to ask as I accept my death
Gone But Not Forgotten."

Gone But Not Forgotten

This poem captures the heartbreaking journey of so many forgotten souls. It speaks to the innocence and loyalty of these animals, and the cruel reality they often face through no fault of their own. Though their lives are short and full of hardships, the love they offer is boundless and pure.

May this reminder stir compassion in all of us to be the voice for those who have none and cherish the love they give so freely!
