Every tag on this bridge represents somebody’s best friend 🌈🐾

Tucked beneath the trees in Lacombe, Louisiana, a small memorial bridge has become a special place for families remembering beloved pets. In just two years, more than 600 collars and tags have been added — some by local visitors and others sent from families across the country.

The Lacombe Rainbow Bridge was created by Mardi Paws/Scott's Wish with support from St. Tammany Parish Animal Services. It was inspired by the original Rainbow Bridge at Lake Lure, North Carolina, where families left collars, tags and tributes to pets they had lost.

What started as a quiet place for remembrance has grown into something much bigger. Families continue to visit, add tags and spend a few moments among hundreds of names — each one honoring an animal who was deeply loved.

Dogs and humans might have even more in common than we thought 🐶💛

Researchers with the Dog Aging Project analyzed thousands of small molecules called metabolites in dogs' blood and found patterns associated with longer or shorter lifespans. When they compared those results with five large human studies, they found something striking: Many of the metabolic signals linked to lifespan in dogs were broadly similar to those found in people.

That doesn't mean these molecules determine how long someone — human or canine — will live. But researchers say the similarities could help them investigate the biological processes behind aging, including metabolism, inflammation and cellular stress. And because dogs share our environments and lifestyles but have much shorter lifespans, studying how they age could ultimately lead to discoveries that help both dogs and their people live healthier lives.
