Help wanted: part-time chaos wrangler, full-time gentle accountability partner. Must be comfortable herding creative impulses, redirecting enthusiasm away from starting five new projects, and occasionally asking, “But did you release the other thing first?”

I have a talent for new ideas showing up faster than I can finish the last one. Right now, I have a growing collection of 98%-finished things that are all equally “coming soon” as soon as I can find the time to launch them.

Seriously though, for this reason I’ve been lowkey been thinking I might run another brand rep search later this summer. Not making it a big announcement or anything just yet, but I’m sitting with the idea. I work way better when I’ve got a small but solid crew around me who are just as motivated, keeping things moving, hyping each other up, and making it harder for me to leave a bunch of half-finished ideas sitting in limbo. More details to follow this summer…

10 years of Sloppy Chops Co.

If you would have told me a decade ago that I’d be been trading in my stethoscope for a hammer and a handful of crystals, I never would have believed you.

But…here I am. And I am so, so grateful. 🫶

I very quietly snuck a few new Limited Edition leather colors into the shop, and a few of you have already surprised me and found them!:

🌊 Deep Sea Blue — a vibrant medium blue that is not as dark as our previously stocked navy blue.
🌻 Sunflower — a warm, rich yellow whose brightness isn’t overwhelming like so many yellows can be.

Both of which are beautiful, high quality veg tanned English Bridle leathers. These will be Limited Edition leathers that I only have small stock of…unless, of course, demand tells me that you want them to become a shop staple (much like you did with our beloved Burgundy Latigo).

I’d love to hear your feedback.

RAT!!! 🐀 When I moved to Northern Michigan, one of the first things I noticed was how many dog sports simply weren’t available in our area. If you wanted to train or compete, it usually meant a long drive. In my case, that meant three hours, each way (UPHILL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS), just to attend Barn Hunt classes.

Yes...I can be that kind of dog person.
And I happily did it, because one of my dogs REALLY loved it.

But as much as I love the instructors and community I train with downstate, I kept thinking: why shouldn’t handlers in Northern Michigan have the same opportunities? Dog sports have proven to me to hold the magic and potential to build confidence, strengthen the bond between handler and dog, and
create an incredible community of people who enjoy working with their dogs.

So, I decided to stop wishing and do something about it….

Proportion changes everything.

I always try my best to offer our designs in various widths that can accommodate different builds, rather than trying to force one standard to work for everyone. Our Clean Run design is no exception and is available in widths ranging from 3/4” to 1.5” (in both leather and biothane options, too!).

🧡 The MINI Clean Run is the petite 3/4”-width version of our Clean Run design, perfectly suited for smaller dogs and also cats.

Zoey is a Rat Terrier with a 9” neck. She is wearing a 3/4”-width Mini Clean Run in Golden veg tanned leather. 🐱 For our cat friends, we also offer the option of adding on a safety release clasp and tapering down the buckle to 1/2” to further reduce any extra bulk.

🧡The Clean Run collar is now available in biothane or leather options. Here we have a 1.5” double layer biothane collar in Orca with solid brass hardware, floral border upgrade and fuchsia and fire opal glacier blue crystals. All of our gear is handmade in-house and fully customizable.

So where have I been and what’s new? Quite a bit, actually.

Recovery from my December surgery is going really well. I’m coming up on eight weeks post-op and I’m fully back in the shop. I also feel good enough to be back in the gym and doing all the normal day-to-day things. Mentally and physically, I feel like I’m adjusting well to the changes and I’m genuinely happy with the decision I made.

I’ve been open about the fact that I had a prophylactic mastectomy, even though I haven’t shared many details beyond that. I have assumed most people don’t really want the full story, but given that so many of you are women, maybe you do. So, if you have any questions you’re welcome to ask, here in the comments, or privately. I’m happy to share my experience to help normalize this choice and give it a voice.

The most common question I get in person is whether I’m planning to have breast reconstruction. The answer is no. I chose what is called an aesthetic flat closure, and I feel confident and comfortable with that choice. Our society places a lot of value on women’s bodies, especially breasts, and stepping away from that way of thinking has been a liberating experience.

And while my chest has undergone the most dramatic redesign lately, it’s not the only thing that’s new around here 😊. Before my surgery date was even set last year, I was already working on a few new collar designs. That release got paused, but it’s finally happening. Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for new designs I’m really excited about. Here’s a little teaser of the Clean Run Collar. It’ll be dropping in BioThane and Leather, and available in widths comfortable for the bigs and the littles.
