It’s miserable HOT 🥵 now imagine going out wearing a fur coat and it’s dangerous hot! It doesn’t take long for your pet to overheat.
Remember if your pet is overheating do not try to cover them with a wet towel or blanket - it traps the heat on them. Instead place ice packs in the armpits and groin area and get them to a veterinarian as soon possible 🏃‍♀️

Daisy is here to remind you that there is an extreme heat warning! She would know as she was recently treated for hyperthermia after prolonged exposure to the heat this summer. This patient was treated promptly with a plasma transfusion to prevent coagulation disorders. Daisy responded well to treatment and was discharged home to her humans.
It can take as short as 15 minutes or even less for some dogs to fall victim to the heat. We never know how they will respond to treatment and prognosis for heat stroke can be poor in most cases.
Keep outside time to a minimal and limit walking to the early morning or later hours of the day. Be sure your pet has fresh water available at all times and let a vet know if you discover your pet has had prolonged heat exposure!

With the long weekend coming up we wanted to remind everyone that our office will be closed on Saturday 9/5 and Monday 9/7/26. We will be open on Friday 9/4 from 7:45am-5:30pm.
We will reopen on Tuesday 9/8 at 7:45am.
Please let us know if you need to pick up food or need a medication refill before the weekend.
If your pet has an emergency please call the Animal Emergency Center at 563-344-9599.
