Did you know that June is Adopt a Cat Month?

I absolutely love seeing the special bond between a cat and their human. There is something so heartwarming about giving a shelter cat a second chance and watching their personality blossom in a loving home. Whether they’re a playful kitten or a wise senior, cats have a way of filling a house with so much life and quiet companionship.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, this is the perfect time to visit a local shelter and find a new soulmate. There are so many sweet cats just waiting for their forever homes!

Did you know that June is National Microchipping Month?

Since I run a quiet, one-on-one salon, I get the chance to really focus on every detail of your pet’s well-being. During our calm grooming sessions, I’m often checking for anything out of the ordinary, and sometimes I can even feel where a microchip is settled under the skin!

It’s a great time of year to double-check that your contact information is up to date with the microchip registry. Life gets busy, and it’s easy to forget to update a phone number or address, but that little chip is your pet’s ticket home if they ever decide to go on an unannounced solo adventure.

I love being able to provide that extra bit of attention to help keep your furry family members safe and healthy.

Thursday Recipe Alert! 🐾🍌🥜

Looking for a simple, 2-ingredient treat to keep your pup cool? Try these Peanut Butter & Banana Frozen Bites!

What you’ll need:
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 tablespoons of dog-safe peanut butter (make sure it has NO Xylitol!)

How to make:
1. Mash the banana in a bowl.
2. Stir in the peanut butter until smooth.
3. Spoon the mixture into an ice cube tray or silicone mold.
4. Freeze for at least 2 hours.

These are a hit here in the Quad Cities! Let me know if your pup loves them as much as mine do!

If your dog thinks a fruit salad is an insult to their canine heritage, I’ve got the perfect solution for these warmer days. Not every pup is a "watermelon sugar high" kind of soul: some prefer the finer, meatier things in life.

Enter: Savory Broth Cubes. 🦴🧊

I love these because they’re ridiculously simple to make and hit that savory spot for dogs who live for protein. Plus, they keep your pup hydrated while they think they’re just getting a fancy snack.

Here’s the breakdown:
1. Grab some low-sodium (or no-sodium) beef or chicken broth.
2. Pour it into an ice cube tray.
3. Drop in a few shredded carrots or tiny pieces of cooked chicken.
4. Freeze until solid.

That’s it. Seriously. It’s like a popsicle, but for the sophisticated palate that demands "pot roast" instead of "strawberry."

A stash of these in your freezer makes a great quick, cooling reward. Just make sure you use pet-safe broth without onion or garlic!

I get asked about bones all the time, so for this week's Thursday tip, I wanted to share a quick guide on what’s safe and what’s not!

The biggest rule I always stick to is: Never feed cooked bones. When bones are cooked, they become brittle and can easily splinter, which is super dangerous for a pup’s throat and stomach.

Raw bones are a much better option, but size really matters! I like to choose raw meaty bones that are larger than my dog’s mouth so they can’t swallow them whole. Things like raw chicken or turkey necks are great for smaller pups, while raw beef ribs or lamb bones work well for bigger chewers.

I also suggest avoiding those heavy weight-bearing bones from large animals (like cow leg bones). They’re often harder than a dog’s teeth and can cause painful chips or cracks.

Most importantly, I always supervise chew time and take the bone away once it gets small enough to be a choking hazard. Keeping dogs healthy and happy is always my goal!

June is National Foster a Pet Month, and I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the incredible impact fostering has on local animals! Fostering is such a wonderful way to help shelters and give pets a chance to decompress in a home environment while they wait for forever families.

One of the things I love most about my work is seeing foster pets truly blossom when they feel safe and loved. Watching their personalities come out and their confidence grow is such a beautiful journey to witness. If you’ve ever considered opening your heart and home to a foster pet, I can tell you first-hand how much of a difference it makes.

Whether it’s for a few days or a few months, every bit of love counts!

Our pets leave paw prints on our hearts that never truly fade.

Today is World Pet Memorial Day, a day to pause and honor the companions who are no longer by our sides but will always be in our memories.

One of the things I treasure most about running a quiet, one-on-one salon is the deep bond I get to build with every pet that walks through my door. Those moments of calm and connection are so special to me. Even after they’ve crossed the rainbow bridge, I still carry the memories of their wagging tails, gentle purrs, and the unique personalities that made them so special.

I know how much these sweet souls mean to you, and I feel so honored that you've shared them with me over the years. My heart goes out to everyone who is missing a furry friend today.

I would love to hear about the pets you’re remembering. If you feel like sharing, please post a photo or a favorite memory of your late pet in the comments below. Let’s celebrate the love they brought into our lives together.

It’s officially burr season! 🌿

Dealing with those sticky little hitchhikers doesn't have to be a nightmare. One of the biggest secrets I’ve found for easy burr removal is actually the condition of the coat itself.

When your pup's coat is well-maintained, healthy, and hydrated through regular grooming, those burrs don't have much to "hook" onto. Instead of getting tangled deep in the fur, they tend to stay right on the surface. In most cases, a quick and gentle pass with a slicker brush is all it takes to slide them right out!

It’s just another little way that keeping up with regular care makes life a bit easier and much more comfortable for your pup during our beautiful Quad Cities summer adventures.

Happy National Best Friends Day!

They say that a house isn't a home without a pet, and I truly believe they are the best friends we could ever ask for. Whether it's a wagging tail when I walk through the door or a quiet purr after a long day, my pets bring so much joy and unconditional love into my life.

One of my favorite things about what I do is seeing the incredible bond you all share with your furry family members. It’s those little moments of connection that make everything worthwhile. I feel so lucky to spend my days getting to know your best friends and providing them with a calm, relaxing experience that keeps them happy and healthy.

I would love to see your favorite photos of your best friends today! Drop a picture of your pet in the comments below so I can see those sweet faces.
