Happy National White Cat Day! There is something so incredibly elegant about a pristine white cat. Whether they are lounging in a sunbeam or showing off that snowy coat, they always seem to have an extra touch of grace.

Keeping those white coats looking bright and healthy can take a little extra love. I always recommend a few simple steps to help your feline friend shine:

1. Gentle Eye Care: White cats are prone to tear staining. I find that a quick, gentle wipe with a damp, soft cloth daily helps keep those stains from setting in.
2. Sun Safety: Did you know white cats can get sunburned? Those little ears and noses are quite sensitive, so I always suggest keeping an eye on how much direct afternoon sun they’re getting.
3. Regular Brushing: Brushing isn't just about avoiding mats; it helps distribute natural oils across the fur, which keeps that white coat glowing.
4. Quality Nutrition: A healthy coat starts from the inside out. I’ve noticed that cats on a high-quality diet tend to have much stronger, shinier fur.

It’s Thursday, and I’m back with a seasonal treat for my dog-friendly recipe series! With Quad Cities gardens overflowing with zucchini and apples appearing for fall, it's the perfect time for Zucchini & Apple Baked Dog Bites.

I love using zucchini for extra hydration and apples for natural sweetness. To keep them crunchy, I always squeeze the extra moisture out of the zucchini: it’s those little details that make a difference!

Ingredients:
1 cup grated zucchini (squeeze dry!)
1 grated apple (no seeds or core)
1 egg
1 1/2 cups oat or whole wheat flour

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Mix zucchini, apple, and egg.
3. Stir in flour to form a dough.
4. Roll into small balls on a baking sheet.
5. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden.

Let them cool completely before your pup enjoys them. I’d love to hear what your furry friends think!

As autumn settles into the Quad Cities, these simple Green Bean & Oat Bites make a wholesome homemade treat for your dog. They use just three ingredients and offer a satisfying, crunchy bite from plain green beans and oats. 🐾

Ingredients:
• 1 cup steamed plain green beans, finely chopped or mashed
• 1½ cups plain rolled oats
• 1 egg

Steam the green beans until soft, then chop or mash them. Mix with the oats and egg until a dough forms. Shape into small, bite-sized pieces and bake at 350°F for 18–20 minutes, until firm. Cool completely before serving. Refrigerate for up to four days or freeze for later.

Use fresh or frozen green beans with no salt, butter, or seasonings. Avoid canned green beans, green bean casserole, onion, garlic, added sugar, xylitol, chocolate, raisins, grapes, and nutmeg.

Green beans are a low-calorie, fiber-rich vegetable, but treats are extras: not meal replacements. Introduce these gradually in small amounts, account for the calories, and consult your veterinarian before serving them to a dog with kidney or digestive concerns.

There’s something so special about my ginger-coated friends. Whether they’re sweet as honey or have a little bit of that famous orange-cat fire, I’ve noticed they really appreciate the quiet, one-on-one time in my salon.

It’s always a highlight for me to see those bright orange coats look even more vibrant and fluffy after a good pampering session. Knowing they feel relaxed and comfortable while they’re with me is what it’s all about.

Keeping those puppy dog eyes bright and clear is one of my favorite parts of my one-on-one grooming sessions. Because I focus on a quiet, calm environment, I’m able to take the time to really look at the little details, like checking for any redness or irritation that might need a closer look.

One simple way I love to help pet parents keep their pups comfortable at home is by sharing a quick cleaning tip. If you notice a little debris or "sleepies" around your dog's eyes, you don't need anything fancy! Just take a soft cloth dampened with warm water and gently wipe the area. Start from the corner of the eye and move outward, being very careful not to touch the eye itself.

It’s a small step that makes a big difference in keeping them feeling fresh and healthy between their regular grooms. I always keep an eye out for these things during our time together so you stay informed!

Most of you know I have been managing herniated discs for several years, balancing physical recovery while continuing to work with the pets I love. Turning 50 next year has brought things into focus: to keep working with pets for the long haul, and to have the energy and stamina to show up fully for my 6-year-old; I need to make some necessary changes.

Starting in 2027, I will be reducing my salon hours and taking one week off for recovery every six weeks. I have had to make the extremely difficult decision to scale back my client list.

For clients remaining on the schedule: You can view next year’s updated schedule online through your account portal. For clients who have been removed: I will be reaching out to you directly. Most affected clients are welcome to join my waitlist for priority access if openings arise.

A small number of pets have been permanently removed because grooming them consistently triggers severe pain or safety risks for my back.

Please know that none of these decisions were made lightly, and they are in no way a reflection of how much I love your sweet pups or appreciate you as clients.

A healthy, happy pet is more than a beautiful coat. 💜

National Holistic Pet Day is August 30: a wonderful reminder to care for the whole pet: body, mind, and emotions.

For me, holistic care includes:
• Gentle, low-stress grooming
• Regular brushing and coat maintenance
• Checking ears, skin, paws, and nails for anything unusual
• Daily movement and mental enrichment
• Nutritious meals, fresh water, and regular veterinary care
• Plenty of patience, comfort, and positive experiences

During grooming, I pay close attention to the details and let pet parents know when I notice something outside the ordinary. Grooming is not a substitute for veterinary care, but it can be an important part of supporting your pet’s overall wellness.

Here’s to helping every pet feel comfortable, cared for, and their very best: inside and out! 🐾

Wellness is about much more than just a quick bath and a haircut, though a fresh coat certainly does wonders for the spirit. On National Holistic Pet Day, I am reflecting on how a quiet, stress free environment plays such a big role in a pet’s overall health. When your pup or kitty feels relaxed during their one on one time with me, it makes all the difference in their mental and physical well being.

I believe that attention to detail is the secret to a happy pet. Whether it is noticing a tiny change in their skin or ensuring they have a calm space to just be themselves, I am always looking at the big picture. My goal is to support a healthy lifestyle that keeps them feeling as good as they look.
