Turns out, he’s not the only Snow White with a surprise.

Meet another Longfin Snow White Ancistrus — spectacular fins, almost pure-white body… and a black belt.

Two different fish. Two unusual pigmentation patterns. Neither was something we deliberately bred for.

Now we’re curious: have you ever seen anything like this in your own breeding groups?

Two plecos. One cave. Now comes the breeder’s test: patience. 😉

A male and female together at our Plecoceramics farm. A useful detail to remember: seeing a pair inside doesn’t tell you when or whether-eggs were laid.

Here’s what to do:

• Note when you first see the pair together. Record when you first see eggs separately; discovery isn’t always the moment of spawning.
• Keep the cave in place and maintain your usual care routine. Avoid sudden changes meant to “push” a pair that’s already inside.
• Keep checks brief and gentle. Don’t lift, rotate or empty the cave just for a better look.

Good breeding records start with separating what you observed from what you assumed.

A sucker mouth doesn’t make a fish an algae eater.

These young L236 at our Plecoceramics farm use their oral disc to grip the stone. That grip tells you how they hold on — not what belongs on their menu.

For Hypancistrus, we provide a balanced diet with animal-based ingredients. Algae on the glass aren’t a substitute for feeding.

And check more than whether food disappears: make sure the shy fish get their share, too.
