💙 Mazie is on the mend! 🐾

Mazie is a sweet 4-year-old Cavachon who came to LRVSS after being referred by and for an MPL, which means her kneecap was slipping out of its normal position.

When a kneecap repeatedly moves out of place, it can make walking uncomfortable and may cause a dog to skip, hop, or suddenly carry a back leg. Surgery can help keep the kneecap where it belongs and give the knee better stability.

Dr. Phil Zeltzman performed surgery to repair Mazie’s knee and get her moving comfortably again. 💙

We’re happy to see this adorable girl recovering and working her way back to her normal activities!

🐾 Recovery Update: Moka

Talk about a comeback! 💙

Moka, a 2-year-old female Cockapoo, visited LRVSS twice this year after being referred by Complete Veterinary Care Lincoln (NJ).

In March, Dr. Phil Zeltzman performed surgery to repair Moka’s left lateral patellar luxation (LPL)—also known as a dislocated kneecap. Then in May, she came back after developing the same problem in her right knee, where Dr. Zeltzman successfully repaired that side as well.

A dislocated kneecap can cause dogs to skip steps, suddenly hold up a back leg, or have an unusual gait. Surgery helps keep the kneecap in its normal position, making the knee more stable and comfortable.

✨ We’re happy to share that Moka is recovering well after both surgeries and is getting back to enjoying life on all four paws.

Some patients hold a special place in our hearts, and this sweet boy is definitely one of them. 💙

This 9-year-old male Domestic Shorthair cat came to LRVSS after being referred by with a left tibia (shin bone) fracture.

What makes his story even more special is that he’s cared for by AID (Animals in Distress), a rescue organization that gives homeless cats and dogs a second chance while they wait to find their forever families. This lovable boy has spent his entire life in a shelter, where he’s become a favorite among the staff and volunteers who adore him.

Dr. Pete Baia performed surgery to repair his fractured tibia, carefully stabilizing the bone so it can heal properly and help him get back on his paws.

✨ We’re happy to share that he’s recovering well. Throughout his stay, he reminded everyone just how sweet, gentle, and affectionate he is—and he won over every member of our team.

Age is just a number, and this sweet girl is proof of that. 💙

Lady, a 16-year-old female Beagle mix, recently visited LRVSS after being referred by for a cancerous mass on her right hip.

Dr. Pete Baia performed surgery to carefully remove the mass, allowing it to be sent for biopsy while helping keep our patient comfortable.

✨ We’re happy to report that she’s recovering well and getting back to enjoying life with her family.

Jinu, a cute 4-month-old Australian Shepherd, is back on his paws!
Dr. Pete Baia successfully repaired Jinu's complicated femur (thigh bone) fracture at LRVSS.
This was a particularly challenging injury.
It was a week old (which is a very long time in such a young dog), and there was a 2nd fracture going down into the knee.
Dr. Baia beautifully fixed it with 3 pins – see the before and after X-rays below.

Meet Monty!
This cute 10-month-old kitty came to us after breaking his shin bone (tibia). The fracture was repaired with 2 wires, a plate, and 9 screws.
Fast forward 2 months, and Monty's follow-up X-rays show excellent healing!
Seeing patients bounce back and return to their normal adventures is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Penny, a 9-year-old female Labrador Retriever, visited LRVSS after being referred by . 🦮

🔎 The challenge:
Like many Labradors, Penny couldn’t resist chasing a squirrel. 🐿️ After jumping off a porch in pursuit of her furry target, she suffered a fracture in her right front leg that required specialized surgical care. 🦮🦴🐾

💡 The solution:
Something didn't look right on Penny's X-rays. Based on the suspicion that there was cancer in the bone, Dr. Phil Zeltzman performed a right front limb amputation. While the idea of amputation can sound scary, dogs adapt incredibly well to life on three legs and can return to many of the activities they love. 🦮

✨ The outcome:
The biopsy confirmed bone cancer in the bone. Penny is recovering well and learning to navigate the world as a tripod pup. Dogs are amazingly resilient, and many surprise their families with how quickly they adjust after surgery. 💙🦴

Gioia, a sweet 1 year old German shepherd, was hit by a car and shattered her forearm (radius & ulna).
The radius was repaired with a plate and 8 screws (and a wire).
Then her nurses decorated her splint.
She is now safely recovering at home.
