🩺 BHVC Breaks it Down: Okay, but what exactly is PEMF therapy? 💜

You may have just seen our post about the Assisi Lounge and learned that it uses PEMF therapy- but what exactly does that mean?

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy. It uses carefully controlled electromagnetic pulses to interact with tissues in the body.

But what does that mean for your pet?
PEMF therapy is a noninvasive, supportive therapy that may help with things like:
✨Supporting circulation
✨Managing inflammation
✨Supporting the body's natural healing process
✨Help with pain and discomfort
✨Supporting mobility and recovery

At BHVC, we often use PEMF alongside other therapies, like acupuncture, as part of a multimodal approach to helping our patients feel their best.
So, the next time you see one of our Assisi Lounges during an appointment, you'll know that there's more going on than just a comfy bed! In this photo, Penny is enjoying her electroacupuncture on an Assisi Lounge (covered by the towel) after her laser therapy.

Have a question about something we do at BHVC? Drop it in the comments and it might become our next "BHVC Breaks it Down" topic! 🐾👀

It's hot out there, friends. Please be careful with your pets!🥵🫠

With a heat advisory currently in affect for our area, now is a good time for a little reminder about keeping our four-legged family members safe in this Alabama heat.

🐾Walk early or late in the day. When it's this hot outside, your pet doesn't need to get their exercise during the hottest part of the day. When in doubt, skip the walk and play inside.

🐾Check the pavement. If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws. Remember that pavement can become significantly hotter than the surrounding air.

🐾Provide plenty of fresh water. Pets can become dehydrated quickly in this hot, humid weather.

🐾Don't forget about humidity. Dogs cool themselves by panting and high humidity can make it harder for them to effectively cool their bodies.

🐾Never leave your pet in a parked car. Not even for "just a minute." The temperature inside of a vehicle can rise dangerously fast, even with the windows cracked.

🐾Know the warning signs. Heavy or excessive panting, excessive drooling, weakness, disorientation, vomiting, diarrhea, and bright red or pale gums can all be signs of heatstroke. Heatstroke is an emergency and requires immediate veterinary attention.

And remember: your pet may be willing to keep going even when they should have stopped. Don't rely on them to tell you when they've had enough.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and please keep those babies safe!

🐾Meet Frannie May Lynn🐾

This sweet little girl is looking for her forever home!
Frannie is a mixed breed puppy, approximately 10-12 weeks old, and she is currently being cared for by her foster/finder.

Her foster absolutely adores her and has already been working on puppy manners - Frannie knows how to sit, lay down, and come when called! She has also received a round of puppy vaccines and will need to get her remaining boosters as she grows.

Frannie is still with her foster and is not currently at BHVC, but we'd love to help connect her with the right family. If you're interested in giving this sweet girl a forever home, send us a message or comment here and we can pass your contact information along to her foster.

Please share this post and let's see if we can find Frannie May Lynn the loving forever family she deserves!💜🐾

📢Delilah has an important announcement:

She would like for everyone to know she got her butt trimmed and she is still fabulous✨🐰

This sweet girl stopped by BHVC for a little "sanitary trim" and, as you can see, she was absolutely unbothered by her spa day. Delilah is a healthy, happy girl who just needed a little tidy up!

Sometimes veterinary care is as simple as keeping our furry friends comfortable, clean, and feeling their best 🐰💜

Have you ever seen one of these mats during your pet's acupuncture appointment and wondered what it was?

✨Meet the Assisi Lounge!✨

The Assisi Lounge uses Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy to help support your pet's natural healing processes. At BHVC, we often incorporate PEMF therapy into our acupuncture appointments, allowing our patients to relax comfortably while receiving another form of supportive therapy.

PEMF therapy may be incorporated into treatment plans to help support patients dealing with things like:

🐾Pain and Discomfort
🐾Inflammation
🐾Mobility Issues
🐾Recovery and Healing
🐾Chronic Conditions Affecting Quality of Life

One of the best parts? Your pet doesn't have to do anything! They can simply relax on the mat while the therapy works alongside their other treatments. It's just one more tool in our toolbox as we work to provide individualized, multimodal care for our patients!

Have questions about PEMF therapy or whether it may be beneficial for your pet? We're happy to tell you more!

🎒✏️The kids are going back to school... but what about the pets?

After a summer full of extra snuggles, backyard adventures, and having their favorite people around all day, your pets may be a little confused when everyone suddenly disappears for school again.

A big change in routine can be an adjustment for our furry family members, too!

As the school year schedule kicks back in, here are a few ways to help your pet settle into the new routine:

⏰Keep their schedule predictable- try to keep meals, walks, medications, and bedtime around the same times each day.

🧠Give them something to do- Puzzle toys, snuffle mats, lick mats, and other enrichment can help keep busy brains occupied while the house is quiet.

🏃‍♀️Make time for exercise and attention- A morning walk or some playtime before everyone heads out can help your pet start the day feeling happy and fulfilled.

💜Watch for signs of stress- Excessive barking, destructive behavior, potty accidents in the house, pacing, or other behavioral changes can sometimes be signs that your pet isn't loving the new routine (tbh, not many humans love the back-to-school routine either 😅)

And most importantly, don't forget to give them a little extra love when everyone gets home!

Happy back-to-school season from all of us at BHVC! We hope everyone has a wonderful (and relatively stress-free) first day back!

Vida wasn't so sure about us at first... but now she lets me hold her like a little baby 🥹💜

This sweet girl is one of our acupuncture patients and watching her grow more comfortable with each visit has been such a joy. Building trust takes time, but it's always worth the wait 🐾💜

Sometimes the best part of the treatment is the cuddles 🐾💜

Sweet Mr. Cab spent his laser therapy session resting the entire weight of his head on Sarah (his Emotional Support LVT) while quietly soaking up the benefits of his treatment.

Laser therapy is a gentle, non-invasive way to help reduce pain and inflammation while encouraging healing. And if it comes with a few extra cuddles, we'd call that a win-win.

Patient Spotlight: Ollie!🩶🐾

Some patients get nervous in the exam room... and then there's Ollie 😻

This sweet boy decided the exam room floor was the perfect place for a full-body stretch, endless belly rubs, and plenty "air biscuits" while purring up a storm. Safe to say he stole every heart in the clinic.

Thanks for brightening our day, Ollie. We can't wait to see you again! (Though we can't promise you'll ever top this performance 😆)
