How windy is too windy? Let me know in the comments how you gage this! 💨

All jokes, it’s windy here more often than not and my horses learn to be civilized in all sorts of weather. Many weeks you don’t get a choice because there is not one nice day and you have to tough it out. But when tomorrow looks beautiful and it’s blowing 40mph today… yeah they can have this one, it’s the first Texas cold front of the year 😆

This young warmblood was a champ for this morning’s shenanigans, but she will have a proper session tomorrow because everything is brand new to her right now, so asking her to do it all in 40mph winds feels a little unfair. I do think it’s great when a horse has a little more experience for them to practice in less than perfect conditions.

This video is slightly sped up to fit within the 60 seconds.

Another mustang placed in a great home! Sokka landed himself such caring and dedicated owners who left him in training for a few weeks while they took some lessons on him. I love when I am able to help make that transition smoother for horse & new owner and feel really confident their new partnership is off to an excellent start.

It’s always a little bittersweet sending one off, but I know they will have fun on their adventures!

Photos taken about 7 months apart.

Rio has gotten so much stronger and more balanced since the first clips, which were from one of his first arena rides. One of my favorite things about developing young horses is watching their mental confidence and physical strength increase together. These two things go hand in hand, as horses start to feel more physically capable they tend to feel braver and more relaxed!

Every horse has a stronger and a weaker side, just like humans, and his right lead started out weaker, as you can see he was less balanced. Now both leads are very similar in strength. It’s great to look back and see where we started. Rio is such a willing, athletic horse who has been quite rewarding to bring along.

Eragon’s trail class from his first show under saddle today. The full video (I couldn’t include all of it and keep it under 3 mins, so this is minus the first obstacle) will make its way to YouTube eventually. For two months out of the wild, he was fantastic today and I’m very proud of him.

We have some homework to do on straightness as he was definitely wiggly but I was not going to be picky and aiming for a confidence building experience. Steering in general is a work in progress. I asked for his lope departures well after the pattern called for them because I wanted to give him a little extra time to look at everything.

He also placed 3rd in the open ranch pleasure, unfortunately I didn’t get any videos of his arena classes! While nervous in the covered arena (to be expected as it was his first time), he did really try. He also made some friends and helped me educate some people about mustangs! This horse is pretty incredible and I’m so grateful I get to teach him.

Eragon last week at 50 days from holding. This is such a nice horse with so much try. Our rides have been very short because he does everything I ask so well, retains information, and overall I couldn’t ask him to be better! This was also his third ride in the snaffle. I really like this horse and am excited to share more updates as I continue bringing him along.

Rio is a mustang from Twin Peaks, CA. I’ll admit I got a little excited when his owner asked me to produce him as an English horse and bring out his talents because I knew he’d be great! This is a really nice mustang who gets a lot of compliments when I take him out in public - on his looks, movement, and demeanor.

Rio is a 5 year old 15.0hh buckskin mustang. Photo is from early summer, his color is full sooty buckskin mode right now (videos are recent).

His owner adopted him in 2024 and gentled him. This spring she sent him to me and I was riding him in two weeks. He was straightforward and enjoyable to start.

Rio rides English and western, in a halter or a snaffle. Walk trot canter, and started jumping around 2’3” courses. Leg yields walk trot, stops and backs up softly. He has gone XC schooling and was fantastic— schooled a ditch, up and down banks, water, and some starter/BN fences. Rio has shown twice— once over cross rails when he was still very green over fences, and recently he won his starter CT scoring a 33.7 in the dressage and a clear SJ. He handled the atmosphere, busy warmups, new sights and sounds. Rio will go over obstacles and I hack him around in the pasture, under trees, and by a road. He is a green horse with 6 months under saddle so he might have a look at something new especially in a new place, but pass it once or twice or let him sniff and he will ignore it. Forward type ride, likes having a job to do and he has loads of try. Suitable for intermediate riders.

On the ground he is sweet, curious, and has a playful gelding type personality. He can be shy with new people. Stands great for the farrier. He has seen the vet and dentist and is up to date on his care. Catches, leads, loads, lunges, ties, stands for baths, fly spray, all the ground skills a horse should know.

Rio lives out and has gone out in a group, he is respectful with others. He is barefoot. Rio is titled so he is not on BLM contract.

Kind of a silly video for y’all this time… horse showing as a video game 🎮

Eragon and Prince attended the But Did You Die obstacle challenge yesterday, always a lot of fun at their shows! Eragon was second in his lead line class! These were just a few of the obstacles in the arena obstacle course.

Both horses got distracted because there was a lot to look at on that side of the arena and stepped off the narrow bridge. Both were also afraid of the water tray (not pictured) Eragon was braver than Prince however.

It was a good experience for Eragon’s first time attending a show, less than 60 days out of holding, and fun to show Prince again as it’s been a while!

Okay Rio, we see you! 👀

This weekend Rio attended his second show and won his starter CT on a 33.2. Not too bad for his first time setting foot in a dressage ring! He had a nice show jump gaining confidence as he went on and putting in great effort.

More of him coming soon!
