As of 5/6/26, we have implemented a new phone menu when you call in. We are hopeful that this will help streamline services. We appreciate your patience and kindness as we try to figure out better ways to serve you as our clientele continues to grow.

We have changed software here at the office. If you have been in this week there is no doubt that you noticed we are operating quite a bit slower than normal. As you can understand, learning a new system takes time. Our staff appreciates everyone patience as we weather this storm of change. It will get better, but in the meantime please be kind to everyone as we navigate through a very busy schedule.

With the new update are a couple of changes:
1️⃣ All other apps and texting numbers are obsolete. Please be directed to the Great Pet Care app in your App Store (or see the email that should have been sent to you).

2️⃣ You can now text us using 870-423-6178

3️⃣ In the app you can book some appointments, see your pet(s) history and refill meds.

4️⃣ There will be a 3 % charge added to any Credit card transaction. Debit card, cash or check transactions are excluded from this fee.

5️⃣ We can send you a link to pay your invoice by text or email.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience during this time. As always if we are not able to answer the phone when you call please leave a message or text us at 870-423-6178 and we will return your call as soon as possible. Thank you!

We are pleased to announce that pet reminders are now available via text or email. Our schedule is typically booked 4-6 weeks in advance, and we strive to accommodate your scheduling requests whenever possible. Unfortunately, same-week scheduling is no longer feasible.

Now that we have talked about the danger of heartworms and how they are transmitted. Let's talk about prevention. Here are the preventions that our office recommends. With any of these products, we have to have a negative heartworm test on file for your dog. We do the test in house. It takes 3 drops of blood and 8 minutes to get you a result.

Proheart 12 is an annual injection. This takes the worry of missing a dose out of your busy life. Does your dog hate taking pills? We also have a program to sign up with and save money on this injection along with any other Zoetis product. Call us to schedule this injection for your dog and make life easier for you and your pet.

Nexgard Plus is a monthly chew. This is a combination of Nexgard and Heartgard plus together. Most dogs like it and it eliminates having to administer multiple chews for fleas, ticks and heartworms. We also have rebates for you to redeem when purchasing 6 or 12 months at a time.

Sentinel Spectrum is a monthly chew. This chewable only prevents heartworms, but it also has an ingredient to treat intestinal parasites. We are able to give you an instant rebate on this product in clinic when you purchae 6 or 12 months at a time.

Heartgard Plus is a monthly chew. This chewable is probably the most palatable chew we have. It mainly only prevents heartworms, but can help control some intestinal parasites. This product has rebates for you to redeem when purchasing 6 or 12 months at a time.

We have mentioned that heartworms are transmitted by mosquitos. Well the American Heartworm Society has the following information: Adult female heartworms living in an infected canine (dog, fox, coyote, or wolf) produce microscopic baby worms called microfilaria that circulate in the bloodstream. When a mosquito bites and takes a blood meal from an infected animal, it picks up these baby worms, which develop and mature into “infective stage” larvae over a period of 10 to 14 days. Then, when the infected mosquito bites another dog, cat, or susceptible wild animal, the infective larvae are deposited onto the surface of the animal's skin and enter the new host through the mosquito’s bite wound. Once inside a new host, it takes approximately 6 months for the larvae to develop into sexually mature adult heartworms. Once mature, heartworms can live for 5 to 7 years in dogs and up to 2 or 3 years in cats. Because of the longevity of these worms, each mosquito season can lead to an increasing number of worms in an infected pet.
