The Clarke County Animal Shelter is a government run 501c3, "open admission" shelter. If you have lost or found an animal you can call the shelter to file a lost/found pet report. Stray animals will be held for a designated hold period, If no owner comes before the end of the hold period the animal will be

come shelter property. When reclaiming an animal, OWNERS MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF OWNERSHIP AND PAY ANY RELATED FEES BEFORE THE ANIMAL CAN BE RELEASED BACK TO THE OWNER. "Open admission" means we receive animals regardless of their behavior, health or level of adaptability, and that we do not turn away any UN-wanted or stray animals from the towns and unincorporated communities of Berryville, Boyce, Millwood, White Post, Waterloo, Calmes Neck, Frog Town, and parts of Bluemont. The shelter takes in roughly 900 animals a year, with the totals growing each year. We take GREAT pride in keeping the shelter clean and inviting and giving the animals in our facility the greatest love, care and attention as possible. This is all managed by two full time employees and volunteers. Along with a small facility comes a small budget. Our local Humane foundation helps us with the unexpected and emergency vet bills and for spaying and neutering of the SHELTER animals. If you would like to help you can be a regular donor or a volunteer! Your donations will help with the present and future care of the animals at our shelter. We do Same day adoptions only if you have already submitted an application and it has been approved. All cat adoption fees are $35 plus the cost of spay/neuter if applicable and dog adoptions are $50 plus the cost of spay/neuter if applicable. Other animals adoption fees vary. If you rent we need a letter from a landlord saying you are allowed to adopt. Must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. All Spay/neuter fees must be paid with a check/money order or cash ONLY and made out to the Clarke county humane foundation. We cannot accept card payments for spay/neuters

Come in and meet Grace Kelly and her other royal friends!

Pet of the Week: Grace Kelly is a 10 year-old Bichon Friese. She has a gentle, loving nature and does well with cats, dogs, and children—making her a wonderful companion for just about any home.

Grace isn’t the only one looking for a fresh start 💛 She came to the shelter with a few of her friends:

• Juno – also a 10-year-old Bichon Frise, just as friendly and easygoing. She’s great with kids, dogs, and cats and would make a lovely addition to a family.
• Custard – a 5-year-old male Bichon Frise with a bit more of a complex personality. He does well with dogs and cats but would do best in a home without children and with an owner who can work with his behavioral needs.

They are up to date on all shots and microchipped. Their adoption fees are $50.

If you can give Grace Kelly, Juno, or Custard a good life, please complete a pre-adoption application: www.clarkecounty.gov/government/animal-control-shelter

Meet the newest resident of our FIV+ room, Oso! From feral colony to being carried around the building in a sling carrier, Oso has seen some things in his life. We are not 100% sure, how old he is but we believe he is between 5-7 years old. If you're looking for a cat that just wants to be held and cuddled, this is your man. He is also quite the talker and has a *unique* voice.

Studies have found that cats with FIV live the same life span as cats that without it. This disease is spread through biting, so we recommend that Oso be either an only cat or live with other cats that have FIV. While he does not seem like a fighter/biter, that is not something we are able to guarantee.

Come by and meet Oso! You are sure to fall in love.

Luigi is a goofy and curious Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. He is often overlooked because he has cage aggression (he growls and shows teeth while in his cage). But once he gets out of his cage and gets a chance to meet you (and maybe a few bribery treats) he will be your best buddy!

He is a scrumptious forkful of love!
Fork is pint-sized, and cute as a button! Adding to his adorability factor is his resemblance to a duck when he yawns (see pic below) - nothing in there but pink gums! 😂
Fork is about 5, and looking for a forever person willing to make a long term commitment to belly rubs. He just loves them! Fork is an absolute purry cuddler for sure, but he doesn't overdo it; rather than lie on your head at night, he's content to sleep next to you instead.
While this snuggly peanut is great with other gentle cats, he would be fine as a solo cat because his priority is realllly *you*... well, you, and his favorite food. 😉 Speaking of which, Fork does have a sensitive tummy and eats a prescription diet to keep his stomach happy.
Little Fork is FIV+, but as you may know, if kept indoors, FIV+ cats can live just as long as negative cats. Sometimes however, they can have yucky teeth. No need to worry about that though, because Fork's teefs have been removed, and he is now so much happier. (And dare we say, even cuter!)
It's been an awfully long time since Fork was brought to the Clarke County Humane Foundation, and he longs for a forever home. If you think your home would be a great match for Fork, please comment below or message us at [email protected]. He is located in a foster home near Wi******er, Virginia. Adoption fee is just $35.

Come check out Blu and give him some treats. Don't forget that dog adoption fees are waived through Mothers Day!

Pet of the Week: Blu is a 5 year-old Labrador/Pitbull mix. Blu is a shy guy at first, but with a little patience (and some treats—he’s very food motivated!), he starts to come out of his shell. He’s done well with cats and enjoys walks, though he may need some help with his leash manners.

If you have another dog, a meet-and-greet is required.

Blu is up to date on all shots and microchipped. His adoption fee is $50.

If you can give Blu a good life, please complete a pre-adoption application: www.clarkecounty.gov/government/animal-control-shelter
