Morgan County West Virginia Animal Control This page provides information on lost and found dogs, ordinances, and laws relating to Morgan County, WV. With limited staffing, we do not allow "walk-ins".

Our office hours are typically from 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday. If you are inquiring about adoption, reporting a lost or found dog, or for other general inquiries during the week, please call (304)-258-6363. For emergencies after hours and during the weekends, you will be directed to our dispatch center. An officer is available 24/7 for emergencies only.

�Adoptions: adoptions are made by appointment only. All adoptions must be pre-approved via an adoption application. If you are interested in submitting an application for a specific dog, please email [email protected]. If you are unable to fill out the adoption application via email, please call our office and we will schedule a time for you to fill out the application in person.

�Owner surrenders: when space permits we do accept owner surrenders. We are essentially a "no-kill" shelter, with less than a 3% euthanasia rate per year. A surrender fee of $75 is charged per owner surrender, especially in cases when the pet is unaltered and not vaccinated. Owner surrenders are by appointment only. Please contact our office if you wish to surrender your pet.

�Cats: Unfortunately we do not generally pick up "stray" or feral cats. We make special accommodations for extremely ill or very injured stray cats when possible, and facilitate rescue pull or euthanasia if necessary. If you have a question about whether we can help with an ill or injured cat, contact our office. For healthy stray cats, or owner surrender cats, please contact a local cat rescue or the humane society.

This most handsome little sugar-faced old man needs a soft place to land! 🥺

Charlie is a 10-12 year old Beagle/Labrador mix.

He has reportedly done well with cats, kids, and other dogs.

Charlie is a medium to large sized fella.

Similar to a little potbelly pig, he may not "look" big, but this guy is solid! 🐖

We may have struggled a little (a lot) getting him into the bath. 😅

Charlie is a very sweet old man! Like seriously, nothing but sugar! He has been very friendly and personable in the short time he's been here.

He seems to do well on leash, reportedly loves car rides, and didn't mind the bath (once we got him in there.)

Charlie obviously has some skin issues.

We have treated him for fleas, gave him a medicated bath, and got him started on some salmon-type dog food.

He is a lot less itchy after the medicated bath!

This dog is not in our care!

Meet Cupcake!

This little girl was rescued by a good samaritan. She was originally found as a stray near Morgan County by a Berkeley Springs resident. She was in very poor condition. The finders kept her during her stray hold, and she was never reclaimed.

Unfortunately they are no longer in a position to keep her long-term. We currently do not have the space or resources to take her here.

We have offered to network her in the meantime!

This beautiful girl looks like she deserves the world! 🥺

Dexter (scruffy, old cat with apparent broken leg) needs wheels for TOMORROW 10/20/2026!

He has a rescue in the Wheeling area that is willing to get him care immediately!

He has a transporter that can meet halfway (Morgantown area!)

Is anyone headed that way tomorrow, or available, to take him along?

From Berkeley Springs, WV to Morgantown, WV.

🚨🚨 SOS! CAT WITH BROKEN LEG!🚨🚨

We have another crusty old kitty that needs help! 🥺

This guy was reported by an Amazon driver. He was found off of Hillcrest Lane.

He is very thin, and his back leg appears to be broken toward the foot. It dangles as he walks, and he is reluctant to put any weight on it.

This fella (appears) to be a nuetered male. He does not have a microchip.

He is a VERY friendly and personable little fella. He LOVES food and has a great appetite!

He needs a rescue commitment IMMEDIATELY!

So far he seems stable (and surprisingly) comfortable.

However, we don't have the resources to give this guy the in-depth intervention he needs.

Unfortunately this injury appears old, and he's likely lived with it for a long time. While he seems comfortable and stable, it doesn't make it "right" to allow him to continue to live like this.

As much as we hope a rescue will pull him and get him the care he needs, we must remain realistic.

If we can't find a rescue for him in the next day or so, our only alternative will be humane euthanasia so he does not continue to suffer.

We are desperately hoping someone is able to give this sweet, handsome, guy a chance!

We want to give you all a HUGE thanks from the bottom of our hearts!

We've had lots supplies and food dropped off by rescue partners and individuals!

We moved FOUR dogs late last week. (That might not seem like a lot, but when you only have 10 kennels, its a LOT!)

We have had more dogs take their place, but it was a relief to have those four moved into homes!

The best news yet:

Havana (now Carley) was transferred to a foster-to-adopt home! She is doing great, and they say she's not going anywhere. We are SO thankful someone finally said "yes" to that beautiful girl. ❤️

Things have been tough lately, but we are so grateful for the support we have from our community. 🙏

Meet Sundae! (PKA Myra/Wednesday)

Isn't she so beautiful? 😍🥺

Sundae has been on our owner surrender list for quite sometime. We were finally able to accomodate taking her.

She is around 1-1.5 years old!

She is spayed!

We are taking her tomorrow to get UTD on vaccines.

We were told she is a "pure-bred" Border Collie. She could be, but looks like she could also be mixed with another type of collie.

She has all the "normal" Collie-type personality traits:

👉🏻Extremely intelligent
👉🏻Devoted to her people
👉🏻Sweet, but sensitive
👉🏻Likes having something to do (very toy motivated!)
👉🏻Very alert!

This beautiful girl deserves her forever home!

She previously lived with other dogs.

We're not sure how she is with small children or cats. If you have itty-bitty sized kiddos you will have to bring them in for a meet and greet!

This girl is around 9 months old!

She was bought as a surprise for her current owner, but she is too energetic for her family to handle.

They cannot keep up with her needs.

She needs a home with a breed-savvy family that can give her the time, energy, and care she deserves!

She is reportedly very friendly!

Okay guys, we're trying this again.

We are full, and we are tired. 😢

These last few months have been physically and emotionally draining.

From a constant influx of animals. Egregious cruelty and neglect. Lots of medical cases and animals that need a lot more "TLC" than others.

All this combined with an overall lack of resources...

We are having a hard time keeping up. There is only two full time ACOs for the ENTIRETY of Morgan County right now.

On top of that, we currently have several pending owner requests.

Folks in our community are calling and begging us to help with their animals, because there is no other alternative that will readily take on these pets.

Everyone is full. Or they're on hold for intakes. Or they simply don't have the financial resources to take these animals on.

We are here to help our community and Morgan County residents, BUT owner surrenders (unfortunately) cannot be our priority.

We have to prioritize the continous stray dog calls, welfare checks, quarantine cases, and emergency intakes.

We need help placing the dogs we currently have, so we can help other animals in need. ❤️

We would love to get these kids placed in homes as soon as possible!

We're a little teary eyed today! (But for a good reason!)

Nyla has celebrated her one year "adopt-a-versary"!

This girl was super deserving, and found the ABSOLUTE BEST home.

The first picture is while she was here, the others are from her mom. The difference is amazing! Seeing her living her best life fills our hearts!

We are so grateful for all our incredible adopters, and her wonderful family is no different.

Her mom says:

"Nyla ONE YEAR update.

On 10/15/2025 we brought Nyla into our family and she has been the best dog anyone could ask for! This last year has flown by, we've been on many adventures including the beach twice and plan to go on many more! She hates being away from her littlest bestie, he always has to be in her sight! We love her so much and so does everyone who meets her!

I just wanted to give you a little happy tails update!
