Big shout-out to The Rescue Network for helping us turn a stormy night into a happy ending! 🐱✨

When a Good Samaritan found a litter of week-old kittens near a storm drain under her deck, Dr. Elise jumped into action. After making sure the kittens were healthy, she used a live trap (powered by community donations! 🙌🏼) to safely secure the mama cat just two hours later.

A vet clinic is no place for a growing family, so a Rescue Network foster stepped up without hesitation. Today, mama cat "Storm Drain" 🙈 and her 5 newborn babies are thriving together in a loving foster home! 🥰

🚨 IMPORTANT LOCAL HEALTH UPDATE: Positive Rabies Bat Detected 🚨

We want to share an important public health reminder with our community. We were recently notified that a bat in our nearby area has tested positive for rabies.
While bats are an incredibly important part of our local ecosystem, they are also the primary carrier of rabies in our region. There is no need to panic, but it is a critical time to make sure our pets are protected!🛡️

How to protect your family and your pets:
✅Check those vaccine records: Up-to-date rabies vaccinations are the single most effective way to protect your pets (and your family) from this fatal virus. If you aren't sure of your pet's vaccine status, give us a call at (605) 763-2024 and we’ll look it up for you!
🏠Keep cats indoors: Even indoor-only cats should be vaccinated, as bats can easily find their way into basements, attics, and living areas.
🦇Never touch a bat with bare hands: If you find a bat on the ground, inside your home, or acting strangely, do not touch it.
👀Watch for hidden exposure: Bat teeth are tiny, and their bites can be microscopic. If you find a bat in a room with a sleeping person, a child, or a pet, do not release it. It needs to be safely captured and tested.
📲Report contact immediately: If you suspect your pet has found, chased, or been bitten by a bat, contact us immediately. If your pet is vaccinated, they will just need a quick booster shot for safety.

If you, a family member, or a pet has recently come in contact with a bat, we offer rabies testing through an external lab to identify positive cases. Please give us a call if you need to bring a bat in for testing, we would be happy to help.
