Halpert transcends language barriers.

Facilities like our alternative adolescent placement shelter and the juvenile detention center are isolating by nature. Kids have been stripped of their homes and families. But for the non-English speakers who come through, the isolation is magnified many times over.

But the thing about dogs is that they speak a universal language.

Thankfully, we don’t get too many non-English speakers. But when we do, they almost always gravitate to Halpert

It is heartbreakingly beautiful to look up and realize how often their eyes are eagerly scanning the room for the one living creature one who understands them.

Merry Christmas!

The holidays are often especially difficult emotionally for incarcerated kids. In addition to his typical regulating duties, Halpert’s has also been spreading holiday cheer.

His outfit has made all the students smile this week while his efforts to rid himself of the Santa hat have kept them laughing. 😂

During his Compass visit, Halpert kept walking around with stress balls. He would bite one in half, a student would take it away from him, and then suddenly he’d have 2 new ones. It turns out the closet door was open, and the stress balls are in a box on the floor. And Halpert has learned a thing or two from his friends at JDC. Now his has his own mug shot to match his skills. 😂😂😂

Halpert busted out of jail (just kidding - he loves JDC!) yesterday afternoon for a chance to meet the students at Compass! He had the best afternoon of cuddles, fetch, and lovin’.
