Today marks 16 years of marriage for me and my husband, Iggy—and it also means we’ve spent about 15 of those years doing something we truly love: raising and matching wonderful dogs with wonderful families. Over the years, that has included Puggles, Buggs, and, before that, even Pekingese mixes, and we feel so grateful for every family who has welcomed one of our puppies into their home. As we celebrate this milestone, we also want to share an honest update: we are beginning to slowly ramp down our breeding program and currently plan to retire by 2032, possibly sooner. We will continue breeding the dogs we already have, but we will not be adding to our breeding program going forward. This has never been about making money for us—in fact, we’ve taken a loss on the business three years in a row. At this point, we are truly paying out of pocket to connect loving dogs with loving homes, and while I’m at peace with that because of how much we love our dogs and these breeds, it has been disheartening to create waitlists and still struggle to place puppies—or to hear that our puppies are “too expensive”—when the reality is that we are not profiting. We do this simply for the love of the dogs, the breed, and the joy of seeing our puppies become cherished members of great families. Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years and trusted us with such an important part of your lives. Your support has meant the world to us, and we hope to continue placing loving puppies with wonderful families for the next few years.
The picture is of our very first Puggle, Cooper—the dog who made us decide to breed Puggles. Cooper fathered many puppies over the years, including our Lexi, and he is the grandfather of Riley and Pazuzu. Part of me wanted to continue his line forever, but unfortunately, nothing lasts forever. Thank you to everyone who chose to read this all the way to the end.
