Thank you to the wonderful folks with Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation in Gillespie for coming today! They helped bathe our puppies, shred newspapers, and make tasty treats for the animals. These little puppies are not ready for adoption yet, but would be able to be fostered until they can be spayed/neutered. Join us at Petsmart in Springfield IL Saturday 8/29/26 from 11am-2pm to visit our dogs and cats. We are still running a discount on cats over 1yr of age for only $25. Qualified cats at Petsmart will be McChicken, Luna and Pretty Girl. If you are interested in one of these pets, please go to Petsmart. No appointment is needed to meet the pets attending the adoption event, please bring current vet records for your pets as well as the dogs in the home to help pick out a new friend. Not every animal can attend an adoption event but you can call 217-835-2538 to schedule an appointment time to meet one that didn't get to go to Petsmart. You can also visit benldadoptapet.org to submit an adoption application for us to review prior.

Today we're saying goodbye to one of our amazing kennel technicians.
Ryder has been with us since August 2025, and has been very passionate about her work since day one. She makes sure to shower every animal that comes into our shelter with love every day, and brightens the days of her co-workers as well. She will be leaving the shelter to go to Cosmetology school, and while we will all miss her, we wish her luck on her next chapter in her life.
We all love you Ryder, and look forward to seeing you again in the future as a volunteer! 💜💜💜

Thor’s ideal home would be one that provides endless cuddles, ready for a long walk or run, a secured fenced yard for that beagle noise to safely explore, and to be your only pet.
