🍁🍁🐾 Let's hear it for our Autumn adopters! 🐾🍁🍁

Over the past 5 weeks, more than 80 dogs, cats, and other companion animals found loving homes through HSCO during "Barktober" and beyond.

From 11-week-old puppies and kittens to 7-year-old pets, these adoption photos capture the moment new friendships began. Thank you to every adopter who opened their home and heart to a shelter animal. ❤️

We love this community, and we are heartbroken by today's tragedy. It shouldn't be this way.

Our hearts are with the families grieving unimaginable loss, the children and educators, and everyone affected by today's violence.

Tonight, we hold our Bend neighbors a little closer.

Take steps towards healing. We have a few spots left in our upcoming Pet Bereavement Support Group that starts on Saturday, October 17. Register today.

Losing a beloved pet can be a profound and often misunderstood loss. This support group provides a safe, compassionate space for participants to share their experiences, process their grief, and connect with others who understand the unique bond between people and their pets.

Details:
6-Week Session
Oct. 17 through Nov. 21, 2026
Saturdays, 10 to 11:30 a.m
HSCO Shelter, 61170 SE 27th St, Bend

To support trust, continuity, and meaningful connections among participants, HSCO asks registrants to plan on attending all six sessions.

Registration is required, and space is limited to eight participants. Interested individuals should complete HSCO's online registration form at https://www.hsco.org/whats-happening/pet-bereavement

To help ensure participants are ready for a group support setting, HSCO asks that at least one month has passed since the loss of their pet before joining the group.

If you know someone who could benefit, please share this post.

🍂🐾 Barktober Promo ends on Saturday! Catch it while you can!

Our Barktober Promo has been quite a success, with many community members successfully adopting animals in need of a caring home from our shelter. Tomorrow is the last day to take advantage of the promo with 50% off adoption fees for every available dog at HSCO. Puppies, adolescents, adults, and seniors are all included.

Every dog adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, collar, ID tag, and leash. Adopters also receive a complimentary health exam at a participating veterinary clinic, transition food, a toys-and-treats goodie box, and special offers from local pet businesses.
Swipe through to see Zach, C***r, Hairy, and Benson— dogs just waiting to meet you.

View available dogs at hsco.org/adopt. HSCO is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5:30 pm.

HSCO’s standard adoption process applies, and required dog licensing fees are separate.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon in Bend has 14 dogs and cats missing their family and best friends. If one of these adorable animals belong to you, call 541.382.3537 and our team would love to reunite you with your pet.

Our kennels are full, so connecting these animals with their families will help open up much needed kennel space. If you recognize one of these animals, please let the owner know they are patiently waiting at HSCO. We are providing these guests the best of care and delicious meals, but they would prefer to be with the people they know and love.

Lost and Found animals are listed on our website: https://www.hsco.org/animal-type/lost-and-found

If you’ve lost a beloved pet, you don’t have to carry that grief alone.

Registration is now open for HSCO’s free six-week Pet Bereavement Support Group:

Saturdays, October 17-November 21
10-11:30 am
HSCO Shelter
61170 SE 27th St., Bend

Space is limited to eight participants, and registration is required.

This small, supportive group offers a place to share your story, connect with people who understand, and honor the bond you shared with your pet through guided conversation, writing, and creative activities.

“The group sharing really helped me bring everything to the surface without judgment from anyone,” one past participant shared. Another said, “I would attend again in a heartbeat.”

The group will be facilitated by Marla Corwin, an HSCO volunteer with more than 30 years of experience in grief support, hospice, and mental health. Because each session builds upon the last, participants are asked to attend all six gatherings.
