When the plans finally make it out of the group chat…

It makes my heart so full to see everyone together, laughing, enjoying each other’s company, and working as a team in a completely different setting. The same teamwork, support, and camaraderie we bring to our workspace shows up outside of it, too.🫶🏼

So grateful for this team and the people who make work feel a little more like family. We will miss a few of these sweet faces as they head to college to pursue careers in the veterinary field. You go girls! 🐾

Supporting the Community We Love 🐾❤️

At Broken Top Veterinary Clinic, we believe being a part of our community means more than caring for animals in the clinic. It means showing up, giving back, and supporting the people and organizations that make our community so special.

We’re proud to support our local community by sponsoring youth soccer teams, purchasing animals through 4-H, supporting local high school programs, and contributing to the many events and organizations that bring our community together.

We love being a part of these experiences—and we especially love helping highlight the important role animals play in our lives. From the pets who are part of our families to the livestock raised through 4-H, animals teach our kids responsibility, compassion, dedication, and so much more.

Thank you to everyone who continues to make our community such a wonderful place to live, work, and raise our families. We’re grateful to be a small part of it. 🫶🏼

Broken Top Veterinary Clinic — proud to support our community, one animal and one family at a time. 🐶🐱🐴🐷

☀️ Summer Heat Safety Tips for Pets ☀️

As temperatures rise, it's important to help keep your pets safe, comfortable, and cool all summer long.

🐾 Provide plenty of fresh, clean water
🐾 Avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day
🐾 Test pavement with your hand—if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for paws
🐾 Never leave pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes
🐾 Make sure outdoor pets have access to shade and cool resting areas
🐾 Watch for signs of heat stress, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or difficulty breathing

Some pets—including seniors, puppies and kittens, brachycephalic breeds (like Bulldogs and Pugs), and pets with underlying health conditions—may be at higher risk for heat-related illness.

Summer is also a great time to schedule a wellness exam to ensure your pet is healthy and ready for all of your warm-weather adventures. Your veterinary team can help identify potential health concerns and provide personalized recommendations to keep your pet safe all season long.

If you notice signs of heatstroke or heat exhaustion, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Stay cool and enjoy a safe summer with your furry family members! ❤️🐶🐱

🐾 Weight Gain Isn't Just About Food 🐾

If your pet has been gaining weight, it might be tempting to blame the treats, but the whole story can be more complicated.

Just like people, pets can gain weight for many reasons, including:
🐶 Less daily activity or changes in routine
🩺 Age-related changes in metabolism
🦴 Arthritis or pain that makes movement uncomfortable
🩻 Underlying medical conditions, such as hormonal disorders

A few extra pounds may not seem like a big deal, but maintaining a healthy weight can help reduce the risk of joint problems, diabetes, heart disease, and other health concerns—while helping your pet enjoy a happier, more active life.

Your veterinary team can help determine why your pet is gaining weight and create a personalized plan that fits their lifestyle and health needs. Sometimes it's as simple as adjusting portions or increasing activity. Other times, a medical evaluation can uncover an issue that needs attention.

❤️ A healthier weight starts with understanding the "why."

📅 If you've noticed your pet is putting on extra pounds, give your veterinary clinic a call to schedule an exam. They can help your pet get back on the path to a healthier, happier life.
