Herd U Needed A Home Herd U Needed A Home is a non-profit rescue for herding dogs in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Herding dogs come in all shapes, sizes and color.

At Herd U Needed A Home Rescue we are passionate about finding the best homes for our rescue dogs! We mainly work with herding type breeds (border collie, heeler, Australian shepherd, McNab), but we often rescue other breeds in need. They may have short, medium or long hair. Some are more energetic and some are more socialized. If you are looking for a great forever friend we will try our best to match you with that dog. There is a huge need for loving homes. An we usually have a number of wonderful dogs awaiting placement. But it is very important that the dog and the new owner are matched correctly. And that's what we do best. Or, if you have a herding dog that you can no longer care for, contact us. We have a waiting list of approved adopters looking for a dog. Our organization will try to place your dog in a loving situation as soon as possible. All of our animals go to approved homes only. We also offer training assistance for any of our adopters. If you have any questions we are here to help! Our dogs come from all over the United States. When we receive an animal they are given a clean bill of health before being adopted out. They are spayed and neutered (if not already), vaccinated, receive all veterinary needs and are placed in a private foster home that treats each dog as a member of the family during their stay. That way we can inform you of each dog’s personality and idiosyncrasies before you take it home—something you cannot do in a shelter situation. Each of our foster dogs each has a unique story. Nellie is a 5-year-old Collie mix who is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, well-mannered, knows some commands, is good with people, dogs, and dog-aware cats. Nellie has been with her elderly owners since a puppy, but she’s too much for them now. She likes to play with other dogs. She is curious about horses and livestock but has minimal exposure to them. She’s afraid of strangers and will bark at delivery trucks. Nellie is good with kids and is wary of the resident cat. She is housebroken and crate trained and hoping for an active home that will give her the attention, exercise, and training to thrive. She does not come when called outside, she should have a fenced yard until her recall is trained. Nellie is in Eagle Point, Oregon. Foster needed for Bolt. Bolts is a 4-year-old Border Collie who was taken in as a stray weeks ago by the Oakridge, Oregon Police Department. There has been no interest from the local community, so they reached out the Hunah. Bolt is friendly and did okay when introduced to another dog at the shelter. They stated that he has not bitten or acted aggressively with our staff. One officer reported he sat when she commanded that, but it was a one-time situation. They are unsure of his training. He’s currently getting walks 4 days a week. Bolt will need to be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped once he has a foster to help him find his forever home. Bolt is in Oakridge, OR. Boots is a 14-month old Kelpie mix who needs a new home; his owner is having health issues. His owner’s daughter is trying desperately to find him a home suitable for his breed. Boots is neutered and vaccinated. He has had a few lessons with a stock dog trainer. He knows sit, down, go potty, bedtime (go to his crate). He’s getting way better on recall/come. He LOVES to play fetch and will bring the ball or find the ball. Load Up. Off and Leave it are a work in progress. He has been boarded a few times and gets along with other dogs but needs a home without cats! Boots is in Pasco, Washington. Daisy is about 4-years-old and she is spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. She was taken in as a stray Sept 10th. She’s a red heeler who hasn't had much adoption interest. The shelter is hoping that a cross post might get the right eyes on her. She is a very sweet dog and is cuddly with people but presents poorly in the kennel due to being so stressed. She spends most of her day panting, barking, or pacing. They shelter has started her on anxiety meds and hope to find a foster or ideally an adopter soon. She has been assessed with another dog and did well!! She was appropriate in her interaction with the other dog but had no interest in playing or engaging. Daisy is in Walla Walla Washington. Foster needed for Dot – she is an 8-month-old Border Collie, Heeler, Rough Collie, Mini Aussie mix who is vaccinated for DHLPP and Rabies. She will need to be spayed and a microchip once she has a foster. Dot is a high energy pup, proving to be too much for her owner. She lives with friendly cats but tends to pay too rough with them. She's unsure of some dogs but likes the owner's neighbor dog. She likes to chew on things and without supervision, will chew on things she's not supposed to chew on as most puppies do. She jumps up and digs but all typical puppy behavior. Dot is in Blodgett, Oregon (west of Albany). First photo is of her as a young puppy - second is how she looks today! Meet Precious—a tender, sweet 3-year-old Border Collie mix who is ready to steal your heart!

Precious is a gentle, petite girl who takes just a tiny bit of time to warm up to new surroundings, but the reward is worth the wait. Once she trusts you, you will have the most loyal, devoted best friend for life. She wants nothing more than to hang out with her people. She is super sweet with everyone she meets. She has her foster dad wrapped around her paw.

She finds tremendous love and comfort with her foster family; she's a quiet girl who loves to cuddle. Precious is a sensitive soul who truly blossoms when given a calm environment, a clear routine, and a confident canine playmate to help show her the ropes. She also enjoys running with her foster pack; she's the fastest of the group. When on the farm, Precious is more interested in what her people and pack are doing than the horses. Precious does great in the car, is super quiet, and learning that going on walks can be fun too. Precious is housebroken. She has no problem being in her crate, but next to you is where she'd really like to be. Unlike a lot of border collies, Precious doesn't need constant activity to keep her calm and focused, she is very happy just to hang out.

What Precious is Looking For:

A Peaceful Setting: Best suited for a calmer home.

No Cats or Chickens: She prefers a home without small animals or livestock. She's been living with two cats, but the cats aren't thrilled about it.

A Canine Buddy: She loves hanging out with her person but also enjoys running with her pack.

A Patient Heart: Someone willing to give her the space and time to build trust and settle in to her forever home.

Josie is a 6-year-old Herding Dog Mix who has settled beautifully into her foster home. While her breed mix usually comes with high energy, Josie is a true couch potato at heart! The Ultimate Snuggle Bug: Josie thrives in a cozy environment and is happiest simply being by your side.

Leash Manners: She does wonderfully walking on a leash—though her herding roots show when she spots a squirrel! She will definitely want to give chase if given the chance.

Social & Alert: She gets along well with other dogs she meets while out on her walks.

** Please help... Foster needed for Snow ** She is a 6 year old spayed female Australian shepherd mix. She is up to date on her vaccinations and microchipped! Snow may take some time to feel comfortable with new people. Her foster must understand personal space and dog body language. Especially when it’s a new person. Snow gets overwhelmed with too much attention / pets. She can be timid and fearful in new situations and will need an experienced foster who will allow her time to settle in and trust. Snow does not have any known medical issues. She is a mixed breed and a very loyal dog. She loves car rides! Playing a bit of fetch and a daily walk would suit her energy level, she's not a high energy girl. She knows, sit, paw, and has an excellent recall! Snow will likely be better in an adult only home though she is okay with older, respectful kids. She currently spends time with other dogs, a medium size and small chihuahua and does fine - photos of her with other dogs. She might be happier as the only dog in the home. Snow is located in Redmond WA.
