Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day. A day created in 2011 by Wayne H. Morris. There are old fears that link black cats to bad luck or magic, which causes people to pass them by. Due to this stereotype, black cats tend to face lower adoption rates and higher euthanasia rates than other cats. Many other cultures actually view black cats as symbols of prosperity, joy, and good fortune.

Does a black cat hold a special place in your heart and home? We want to see them!

Here are 6 reasons to visit the Aug 16 West Virginia Reptile Expo - Huntington happening in Huntington, WV 😊

1) This is WV's largest and cleanest exotics event, where healthy animals are the standard and the selection is huge! There are TWO ballrooms of vendors to explore and there is truly something for everyone!

2) We have both our awesome veteran vendors + exciting new vendors joining us at this WVRE, including one new vendor driving 10 HOURS to come to WV! Many others drive anywhere from 1 to 8 hours so that the WVRE has a vast selection of exotics for our guests. This is why we say the WVRE has the best selection of exotics in the state -- it's true!

3) We have popular educational YouTuber The Tarantula Collective joining us for the first time ever in our junior ballroom, where you can meet Richard Stewart yourself and pick up some invertebrate friends from him or grab some of his macro photography!

4) The selection! Yes you will find lots of reptiles at the WVRE, but you will also find beautiful birds, invertebrates like tarantulas and praying mantises, pocket pets like hedgehogs and sugar gliders, a beautiful variety of freshwater fish and inverts, amphibians of all kinds, and lots of different plants! 🌿 Guests will also have access to a huge selection of enclosures, feeder rodents, feeder insects, and supplies to choose from. Plus a great selection of locally made artwork like oddities, jewelry, prints, apparel, and more!

5) The friendly faces 😊 our vendors are not only experts in the animals that they work with, they are also incredibly friendly and happy to help both new and experienced hobbyists with tips and tricks regarding animal care that you may not find anywhere else!

6) Kids get in free -- and love the WVRE! Kids 10 and under get free general admission to our huge exotic pet event where they can see animals they won't find in pet shops. Select vendors offer hands on experiences and you can even get a photo with a massive, beautiful reticulated python, providing both photos and memories to last a lifetime!
