Meet sweet Ivy, who recently visited us for her spay surgery! 🐾❤️

After her procedure, Ivy got to snuggle into one of our brand-new banana beds while recovering from anesthesia. And we think she looks absolutely adorable! 😻🍌

We know that a trip to the veterinarian, especially for surgery, can be stressful for our feline friends. That’s why we’ve introduced these cozy, enclosed beds to help our kitty patients feel safe, secure, and comfortable during their stay.

🍂🐾 Cooler Weather Is Coming — Is Your Pet Feeling the Aches and Pains of Arthritis? 🐾🍁

Our first big cooldown of the season is expected this weekend! As temperatures begin to drop, it’s a great time to pay attention to signs of arthritis in our dogs and cats.

Arthritis doesn’t just affect older pets, and the signs can be surprisingly subtle. Our pets are often very good at hiding their discomfort!

🐶 Signs of Arthritis in Dogs:

* Stiffness after sleeping or resting
* Difficulty getting up or lying down
* Hesitation to jump onto furniture or climb stairs
* Limping or slowing down on walks
* Reluctance to play or exercise
* Difficulty getting comfortable
* Changes in behavior or irritability when touched

🐱 Signs of Arthritis in Cats:

* No longer jumping onto favorite furniture or countertops
* Hesitating before jumping or using smaller jumps
* Difficulty climbing stairs
* Sleeping more or becoming less active
* Reduced grooming or a matted coat
* Difficulty getting into or out of the litter box
* Becoming withdrawn, irritable, or less social

Did you know? 🐾 Cats rarely limp from arthritis! Instead, you may notice subtle changes in their daily routines. What looks like “just getting older” may actually be chronic pain.

🐾💙 Meet Nimbus, our adorable little patient of the day! 💙🐾

Nimbus had a big day today! This handsome little guy underwent his neuter surgery and an umbilical hernia repair.

After his procedures, Nimbus was all snuggled up in a cozy blanket, sporting his little recovery outfit and showing off the cutest tiny blep! 👅🥹

We’re pretty sure Nimbus has mastered the art of being absolutely adorable, even after surgery! ❤️

🚨 FLEAS ARE OUT IN FULL FORCE! 🐾

We are seeing so many pets with fleas right now at Catawba Heights Animal Hospital — including pets that spend most of their time indoors!

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is: “My pet stays inside, so they don’t need flea prevention.”

Unfortunately, fleas can still find their way inside. You can carry fleas into your home on clothing or shoes, and even primarily indoor dogs are exposed when they go outside for bathroom breaks, walks, or playtime.

And once you start seeing fleas on your pet, you may already have a much bigger problem. 🪳 Fleas spend much of their life cycle off the pet and in the environment as eggs, larvae, and pupae. Once an infestation is established, it can take 8–12 weeks or longer of consistent treatment and prevention to get it under control.

That’s why prevention is SO much easier than trying to eliminate an infestation!

🐶 For dogs: We highly recommend Bravecto, a chew given every 3 months, or Bravecto Quantum, an injectable flea and tick preventive that lasts 12 months.

🐱 For cats: Bravecto topical provides flea and tick protection for up to 3 months.

The key is year-round prevention — not just during the summer and not just when you see fleas. Skipping doses gives fleas an opportunity to restart the cycle.

Already seeing fleas? Don’t panic, but don’t wait! Treating every pet in the household appropriately and keeping them consistently protected is essential to breaking the flea life cycle.
