THIS is Bobby.

After nearly three months of being in our care, we wanted you to see the side of Bobby that a kennel simply cannot show you.

Look at this boy RUN!

Bobby is most likely around 2 years old and is believed to be a Coonhound mix. He is energetic, playful, curious, and absolutely loves having room to stretch his legs and explore. He does great with other dogs and clearly has no shortage of energy when he gets the chance to run around and play.

He is also kennel trained, knows basic commands such as ā€œkennel up,ā€ has had no accidents while in our care, and has recently been neutered and vaccinated. He is READY for a home.

And honestlyā€¦ this is why we keep saying Bobby needs out of the kennel.

He isnā€™t meant to spend his days sitting behind a kennel door. He needs a family who will take him for walks, let him sniff every blade of grass like it contains the secrets of the universe, play with him, work on training, and give him the exercise and attention that an energetic hound needs.

Bobby has spent nearly THREE MONTHS waiting.

Three months of being cared for by a veterinary clinic when he should have been someoneā€™s dogā€”sleeping in their house, running in their yard, getting spoiled, and being part of a family.

We understand that sometimes circumstances change and people genuinely find themselves unable to keep a pet. But abandoning an animal and leaving them to become someone elseā€™s responsibility is not a solution. There are real consequencesā€”not only for the animal, but for shelters, rescues, veterinary clinics, and the other animals who need those limited spaces.

Bobby didnā€™t ask to be here.

He shouldnā€™t have had to wait this long.

And he definitely shouldnā€™t have to spend another three months waiting for someone to choose him.

So weā€™re hoping these videos help you see what we see every day: a young, happy, goofy, energetic dog who still has SO much life to live.

If youā€™re looking for a Coonhound mix who will keep you moving, make you laugh, and probably convince you that every smell in the neighborhood needs investigatedā€¦ Bobby might be your guy.

BACK TO SCHOOL!

Weā€™ve been seeing all of your adorable ā€œFirst Day of Schoolā€ pictures, and honestlyā€¦ we felt a little left out.

So, Natalie and Rillie decided they deserved their own first-day-of-school photos!

They may not be riding a school bus, carrying a new backpack, or heading off to elementary school, but they ARE headed into another year of veterinary chaos, questionable decisions, caffeine dependency, feral cats, and trying to remember where Rillie left the stethoscopes.

Although, there is one small problemā€¦

Rillie graduated this year.
So for the first time in YEARS, August rolled around and she realizedā€¦

WAITā€¦ SCHOOL DOESNā€™T START?!

Meanwhile, Natalie has apparently been out of school for three years and is still somehow confused about why sheā€™s participating.

Please wish these two the best of luck this school year. Theyā€™re going to need it.

šŸ¾ FOUND DOG ā€” CLARION, IA šŸ¾

This handsome fella seems to have lost his humans, and weā€™re hoping our community can help us get him home!

He approached Officer Biggs while he was already assisting with another lost dog. He was found in the 800 block of 3rd Ave. NE in Clarion and unfortunately had no collar or identification tags to help us locate his family.

The officers brought him to our clinic in Belmond, where he is safe and being cared for while we try to locate his owners.

IMPORTANT: He can only be held for 7 days before he is legally considered abandoned.

We also want to be transparent with our community: our clinic does not have the space to take on another abandoned dog. We still have an impounded dog from the beginning of summer who is waiting for a home, and our kennel space is already extremely limited. We desperately want to help every animal that comes through our doors, but we simply cannot continue taking in dogs indefinitely when there is nowhere for them to go.

Thatā€™s why finding this boyā€™s family is so important. We want nothing more than to see him reunited with the people who are missing him!

If you recognize him, know who he belongs to, or have ANY information that could help us locate his family, please contact our clinic as soon as possible.

Bobby Is Looking for His Forever Home

After nearly three months of being abandoned in our care, Bobby is finally ready to find the home he should have had all along.

Bobby is roughly 2 years old and is believed to be a Coonhound mix. He is a handsome, energetic boy who absolutely loves being around other dogs. He has recently been neutered and vaccinated and is ready to start the next chapter of his life.

Bobby is kennel trained, does well with his routine, and knows basic commands such as ā€œkennel up.ā€ He has not had accidents while in our care and has proven to be a very good boy despite the circumstances that brought him to us.

As a Coonhound mix, Bobby is an active dog who will need a family willing to give him plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. Coonhounds are intelligent, curious, scent-driven dogs who were bred to work and use their noses. A secure yard, daily walks, opportunities to sniff and explore, and continued training will be important for Bobby. He will do best with someone who understands that an energetic hound needs more than simply being let outside for a few minutes each day. In return, youā€™ll get a loyal, affectionate companion with plenty of personality.

Most importantly, Bobby needs someone who is committed to him for the rest of his life.

It is incredibly frustrating and heartbreaking that a dog can be brought into someoneā€™s life and then simply abandoned when things become inconvenient. Dogs do not understand being ā€œgiven up.ā€ They simply know that their people are gone. Bobby has spent nearly three months waiting for someone to come back for him, while our already limited kennel space has remained occupied by a dog who should have been in a home.

We are a veterinary clinic, and while we will always do everything we can to care for animals who need us, our kennel space is not intended to become a long-term home for abandoned pets. We have other animals needing our help, and every kennel occupied by an abandoned dog limits our ability to assist the next one.

Bobby deserves better. He deserves a family who sees his energy, his hound personality, his quirks, and his big heart, and chooses him anyway.

IMPORTANT CLINIC SCHEDULE UPDATE

Itā€™s that time of year again, and we want to give our clients plenty of notice regarding Docā€™s upcoming time away from the clinic.

August 27ā€“29: Doc will be out of the office attending a veterinary convention.

September 2ā€“September 21: After a short return to the clinic, Doc will be heading to Tennessee for vacation. He will return to the office on September 21.

During both of these periods, we will not have a veterinarian physically in the office. Our Veterinary Technician and Student Veterinary Technician will still be working out of our Belmond location and will do their best to assist clients and patients within their scope of practice.

Although Doc will be away, our Healthy Pets, Happy Rewards Preventive Care Raffle will continue as scheduled. During this time, clients will still be able to schedule qualifying preventive services, including Senior Wellness Panels, routine bloodwork, and SNAP testing.

Please keep in mind that our technicians are not permitted to diagnose medical conditions. If bloodwork or testing reveals something concerning, our team will contact Doc as appropriate. For non-emergency findings, Doc will review the results when he returns to the clinic and we will follow up with you regarding any recommendations or next steps.

Certain services, medical concerns, prescriptions, and treatments will require a veterinarian and may need to be scheduled for when Doc returns. We strongly encourage everyone to plan ahead and take care of routine appointments, medication refills, health concerns, or other veterinary needs before Doc leaves whenever possible.

One final note: while Doc is away, you may also notice some activity around the clinic as we finish up our remodeling projects. We are excited to be completing the final improvements to the clinic and appreciate everyoneā€™s patience as we finish this last phase.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone when Doc returns on September 21.
