Repost:

From rescuers everywhere...

Our mission was to help the abused, neglected and discarded dogs in our area and beyond.

Our mission has never been to relieve you of the commitment YOU made to your dog when you took them in.

People have babies and keep their dogs.

People change careers and keep their dogs.

Peoples schedules get hectic and they keep their dogs.

People move and find a way to keep their dog.

People run into issues with manageable/trainable behavior AND THEY KEEP THEIR DOGS.

These situations are not unique.

We didn’t start this rescue to bail you out. I’m sorry, I know that may sound harsh— and yes, we know that there are absolutely situations in which people can truly no longer care for their dog- and we help with those as much as we can.

But for the love of Dog— step up for your dog. Show up for your dog. Show your dog the same love and commitment today that you showed them the day you brought them home.

Dogs are being euthanized every single day because the shelters do not have space. FRIENDLY. HEALTHY. HAPPY. ADOPTABLE. DOGS.

Your dog is no different than any of the dogs who have been losing their lives every day and if you give up on your dog— they could be next.

Medical Pupdate ❤️‍🩹

Mr. Astro, aka Rice Krispie, aka Mr. Krisp, aka Captain Crunch joined the pack with the Operation Pearlblossom pups. Beyond grateful to for never giving up on him and to his amazing short term foster in CA who stepped up for him at the last minute when others bailed on him. We are thrilled to have this mini grandpa Pittie pal with us.

Yesterday he spent the day with his amazing team and underwent testing to confirm what we already somewhat knew, and was diagnosed with Cushings Disease. That being said our goal is always quality of life and comfort. Mr. Krisp currently has both, although we would like to help him a little more with his mobility.

Krisp had already been started on medication and diet for liver support and we have added in medication for his arthritis, as well as strengthening and range of motion exercises daily….clearly he had his workout already this morning.

We will be revisiting bloodwork in 2 months and will begin him on medication for Cushings, which will be closely monitored by his veterinary team.

Cushings is not something he will “get over” but it is something we feel confident managing. Again, the goal is always quality of life, both our team and his veterinary team have no doubt he has a very good quality of life currently. We absolutely love every single second we get to spend with him and are beyond thankful he was able to make it up with all of his Pittie brothers.

Mr. Krisp loves exploring, playing with his friends, going on strolls, and relaxing in a good sun spot on his teal bed listening to The Young and the Restless (he is blind but he still loves the storylines). Not a bad retirement my friend.

Thank you to everyone who supports our mission, not just for the pitties but for their pals. Because they ALL deserve to live out their lives in a home with people who love them ❤️.

Mr. Abuelito Medical Pupdate ❤️‍🩹

We have quite a few things going on with this handsome grandpa. Let’s break it down:

🩺 Prior to Abuelito leaving CA both of his ears were packed with medication that slowly dissolves due to infection in both ears.

🩺 While he is under for his surgery his ears will be deep cleaned and reassessed.

🩺 There is a small mass on his testicals that we will be removing when he is neutered and sending out for testing to confirm what exactly it is (we are not particularly worried about this mass).

🩺 There is a small mass on his left eye that will be assessed to determine if this is something that they could and/or should remove. Due to size and location photos have been sent out by our wonderful veterinarian for a second opinion.

🩺 There is a small firm mass on the inside of his left shoulder that we are the most concerned about. A fine needle asperite was done but was not affective in determining what exactly we are dealing with. This will be removed when he is under. Obviously due to texture and location we are worried about Mast Cell. Luckily it is fairly small and in a location that we would more than likely be able to get clean margins when removing. Once this mass is removed it will also be sent out for confirmation.

🩺 Abuelitos teeth are worn down and broken everywhere, a lot of root exposure so extractions with his dental will be absolutely necessary.

🩺 There is one/potentially two oral masses that will also be removed and sent out for testing.

🩺 Lastly, due to his age we will obviously be doing a senior panel pre op bloodwork prior to him being put under anesthesia.

We know this is a lot, this man has been through A LOT. He DESERVES to be pain free, he DESERVES to be healthy and we won’t stop until we get him there.

If you would like to help Abuelito get to the very best version of himself you can donate to his medical via PayPal or Venmo (link in our bio), or by calling our vet directly.

Moose’s Medical Pupdate 🏥🩺

Mr. Moose saw his amazing team and we officially have a plan in place for all of this medical. As we all knew Moose was surrendered to with his skin in pretty bad condition. This likely started as an allergy but left untreated became completely out of control.

Our team is feeling pretty confident this started as a food allergy, Moose will be starting on a very special diet with Royal Canine Hydrolized Protein starting asap. He will also be getting Douxo Pro baths every 3 days, along with the Moose and wipes 2-3 times per day. You will see he will also be wearing PJ’s while out and about to try and prevent environmental affects directly contacting his skin while it heals.

We will also be treating his ears and eyes with drops for the next week or so. It was determined through a tear test that Moose has chronic dry eye in both eyes so he will need lifelong matinence care to prevent damage. Good news is we did a stain test and there were no indications of ulcers in either eye…yay Moose!

We know this sounds like a lot but this is all very typical protocol for pups with skin in this shape to begin with.

How you can help! We will be adding the shampoo, moose, wipes, and eye lubricant (everything non prescription based) to our Amazon and Chewy wishlist, if you would like to send a bottle Mr. Moose’s way he would greatly appreciate it!

EVACUATE NOW: City of Sumas Issues Urgent ‘Go Alert’ as Flooding Becomes Imminent—Residents Strongly Advised to Leave Immediately

The City of Sumas has issued a Go Alert, signaling that flooding is now imminent and residents should evacuate as soon as possible. City officials announced that the flood siren at City Hall will be activated, and evacuation routes may close quickly once water reaches the roadways. Anyone living in Sumas, particularly low-lying neighborhoods, is being urged to leave without delay.

According to the alert, the amount of time before floodwaters reach residential areas can vary, but conditions are deteriorating rapidly. Once water reaches evacuation routes, they will become impassable. Officials are stressing that residents should not wait for the situation to worsen, as swift rises in water levels are possible.

Residents are urged to alert family and neighbors, gather essential emergency supplies, dress appropriately for cold and wet weather, and shut off utility mains before leaving. The city also stated that emergency shelters will be available, and locations will be posted through official channels.

Additional instructions, evacuation orders, and route maps are available on the City of Sumas website. Emergency updates will continue to be provided through the Voyent Alert system, the City of Sumas page, KGMI 790 AM, Bellingham Metro News, Whatcom County Weather and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Emergency Management.

Sandbagging efforts are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., but officials emphasize that residents should not rely on last-minute protective actions. Road conditions and floodwaters have the potential to shift quickly, and evacuation is the safest option.

BMN is monitoring updates from Sumas officials and will continue to provide information as soon as it becomes available. Residents are strongly encouraged to leave now if they are within affected areas and to follow all official instructions for their safety.

Whatcom and Skagiet county please take necessary action. If you need help please reach out.

Community Alert: Sumas Issues Flood Warning as Conditions Worsen

The City of Sumas has issued an urgent flood warning as officials now expect flooding to begin soon, prompting residents to take immediate action. City leaders are urging households to prepare as early as possible, emphasizing that this is the time to “Get Set” in the event an evacuation becomes necessary.

According to the city’s announcement, residents are being advised to have their essential items ready, including emergency bags and any supplies they would need if they are asked to leave their homes. People are also being encouraged to review their emergency contact lists and to communicate early with family, neighbors, and friends so they can coordinate plans and check on one another. The city noted that residents should know how to shut off gas, electric, and water service if it is safe to do so, stressing that no one should ever attempt to touch electric systems while standing in water.

Officials also outlined next steps for those who may be unable to evacuate on their own if an order is issued. Anyone physically unable to leave their home during an evacuation will be able to request help by calling 360-599-2823, where they can be placed on an evacuation assistance list. City leaders said updates will continue to be issued as conditions evolve, and emergency information will be available through multiple channels, including the Voyent Alert System, the City of Sumas website and page, KGMI 790 AM, and updates from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Emergency Management—Bellingham Metro News will also be providing critical updates, as well as local weather page: Whatcom County Weather.

Residents are urged to stay alert, monitor official updates closely, and be prepared to act quickly if evacuation instructions are announced. Local officials emphasized that staying informed and preparing now will help ensure the safety of everyone as river levels continue to rise.
