The forbidden boba

Skinks get some roe and salmon today, courtesy of our local fishermen!

The majoriry of the mix is our 5 squash blend—with seeds. We also added yellow bell peppers, carrots, mango, and papaya.

Fish is a rare treat in our household 😊

Showing the subtle sexual dimorphism in head shapes between a single adult pair (both are at least 6-7 years old) of West African Nile Monitors (Varanus stellatus) in our care.

While we have observed more subtle differences in their tail shapes, how they store fat on their bodies, and overall body shape, we have found that their head shapes are the most distinct.

Our males have broader, bulkier heads than our female.

Please note we only have 2 males and 1 female in our care. We are simply reporting what we have observed. This is not a guaranteed method of sexing your Nile monitor. :)

Got Fish?

Some of our wonderful local fishermen donated over 100lbs / 40kg of fish carcasses, innards, roe, and fillets for our Dragons! 🐉 It filled our deep freezer up!

The monitors love these—they'll be eating like kings 👑

The blueys *might* get some roe as a treat, but this whole freezer is dedicated to the monitors.

We feed our blue-tongued skinks a significant amount of squash variety, as that is often the base of their veggie mixes.

As a result, it is quite common to find seeds that have germinated and have begun to sprout! 🌱

This is one of 5 different species of squash we used, no clue what it'll turn out to be except food!
