We see it all the time.

Before the doors opened…

A 47,000-DOG STUDY JUST PUT THE GRAIN-FREE WARNING UNDER A MICROSCOPE.

Researchers analyzing Dog Aging Project data found that dogs reported to eat grain-free diets were no more likely to receive a new cardiac diagnosis than dogs eating grain-inclusive diets.

But here’s the part we really need to discuss: When researchers checked the specific foods, pet parents who said they were feeding grain-free were WRONG 51% of the time!

This doesn’t prove that every formula is appropriate for every dog—or answer every question about diet-associated DCM. But it does challenge the sweeping claim that removing grains automatically increases heart-disease risk.

“Grain-free” is a category, not a complete nutritional analysis. Formulation matters. Individual ingredients matter. And as better research becomes available, our understanding should evolve with it.
