Our founder, Jenni Riha, grew up in a rural area of Springfield, Nebraska. She graduated from Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in 2001 with a degree in Veterinary Technology. Samantha was found right after birth, with the umbilical cord was still at

tached. With no momma cat in sight, Jenni took Samantha in and cared for her. Samantha was Jenni's first foster fail. After continuing to take care of the occasional abandoned farm kitten, Jenni found herself fostering more and more. In 2014, The Foster Kitten Project was born on Facebook where she could share her happy, and sometimes heart wrenching, stories. In 2017, Jenni found herself desperately trying to reunite a neonatal foster kitten with the rest of his siblings before they were picked up and euthanized for being too small, expensive, and time-consuming to care for. This was when the true purpose of The Foster Kitten Project was born. Jenni wanted to focus on orphaned and abandoned neonatal kittens. In 2018 she earned the not-for-profit 501(c)3 status, and The Foster Kitten Project has been saving neonatal kittens ever since. It is important to note that each kitten costs roughly $250 to care for. This not only includes, food and supplies, but we make sure each kitten is
- Microchipped
- Given age appropriate vaccinations
- Dewormed
- Fecal tested
- Virus tested (Including FELV & FIV)
- Spayed or Neutered

In 2020 alone, we took in and cared for 139 kittens and 5 pregnant or nursing moms. By the end of 2020 we successfully found loving furever homes for 119 of them. Please check out our website, thefosterkittenproject.org, to learn about

😸🐾🐶There’s a special kind of patience that comes from being a dog who has clearly decided this tiny foster kitten is not his problem. She launches attack after attack — pouncing, batting, full commitment to the bit — while the dog stares off into the middle distance like a parent ignoring a toddler’s tantrum in a grocery store. Not a flinch, not a glance down, just pure, unbothered zen. he hasn’t so much as blinked. Certified foster hero, professional statue.

Ever wanted to help save kittens but don’t have space to foster? This might be your perfect fit! 💛

We need volunteer drivers to help kittens get where they need to go:
🐈 Picking up brand-new rescue kittens and bringing them to The Foster Kitten Project
🏥 Rides to and from vet appointments

No long-term commitment required — this is on-call, so you help when your schedule allows. When a transport is needed, we post it in The Foster Kitten Project Volunteer Group on Facebook, and you can jump in whenever it works for you.

It’s a simple way to make a huge difference in a kitten’s life — sometimes all it takes is a car ride to change everything. 🐾❤️

FKP FLASHBACK 🎥📼 Two of our 2023 grads! Causing cuddles and chaos in one video. One tiny kitten flopped on their back trying to nap, minding their own business — while the other swoops in like a self-appointed groomer with zero chill, pinning them down for a very enthusiastic bath/wrestling match. Once a foster baby, always a menace. 🐾💕
