The Mighty Mutt Crew is having a ruff week. Baby had a strange lump come up suddenly on one of her breasts so off to the vet we went so doc could give her the once over. Upon examination there is also a bloody discharge coming from her ni**le. Doc was concerned enough that she wanted to keep her tonight for surgery tomorrow. Baby’s tummy has been upset lately too, so we did X-rays to make sure all is well. She has what looks like some stuffing hanging out in her tummy along with what looks like bone fragments. The stuffing I get, she’s always shredding a toy if she gets a hold of it but I haven’t given anyone any kind of bones in forever……anyway, she will be getting some fresh pineapple juice to help clean out her tummy before surgery tomorrow. On the up side, her blood work was perfect :)

Sadie girl sure could use some good thoughts and prayers. She’s had a rough month so far. She just recovered from a bit of a chronic cough, from what we aren’t sure, but two courses of clavamox later she is all good in that department. But just as she was recovering nicely from that, Friday night after dinner she started limping and favoring her back, right leg. As the evening progressed it got much worse so we headed to vet Saturday morning. I was really hoping I was over reacting but X-rays revealed she has a mild tear in her cruciate ligament. The cruciate ligaments are two bands of fibrous tissue that criss-cross over the knee. They’re what makes a dog’s knee “hinge.” Humans actually have similar ligaments in our knees, but ours are called the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. This almost always requires surgery that has a lengthy recovery process. She got an adequine shot for pain as well as a laser treatment and is taking an anti-inflammatory. We are in wait and see mode to see how does. We are trying to limit her movement as much as possible but she is a stubborn Beagle you know. Lots of decisions to be made in the near future as to how to proceed. I just hope I am able to do what is ultimately best for her. She is just the happiest, sweetest little senior girl, I mean just look at that face
