🐴📣 Straight from the Rescues' Mouths is Here! 📣🐔🐱

Hold onto your hay nets...June was WILD!

This month, we said a heartbreaking goodbye to our beloved Kiss, welcomed over 60 new rescues, including approximately 40 chickens, 18 barn cats, and two special equines in need, Bruno and Mayfly.

From auction rescues and emergency veterinary care to educating the public about responsible chick ownership and helping animals whose families could no longer care for them, it was a month filled with challenges, compassion, and second chances.

❤️ Read Samson's latest blog to learn about:
🐴 Bruno's journey to becoming pain-free
🐴 Mayfly's road to recovery
🐔 Why so many chickens needed rescue
🐱 Our growing Barn Cat Program
🦙 The llamas' annual summer makeover

None of this would be possible without the support of our amazing community. Thank you for helping us continue to say "yes" when animals need us most.

Be Their Voice

Every day, rescues are faced with difficult, time-sensitive decisions; especially at auctions where lives quite literally hang in the balance.

We want to hear from you.

This short poll isn’t just for feedback. It helps guide how we prepare, respond, and make decisions when it matters most. Your input gives us valuable insight into how our supporters think, feel, and prioritize when it comes to saving lives.

There are no right or wrong answers. We just want your honest perspective.
https://www.illinoishorserescue.org/betheirvoice

Take a moment to complete the poll and be part of the decision-making process that helps shape future rescues.

Because every life matters and every rescue begins with someone who cares.

🫏✨ Guest Blogger Alert: Moto Moto Has Entered the Chat ✨🫏

This month, Moto Moto took over Straight from the Rescues’ Mouths to share:

✔️ Mandy’s important vet update
✔️ Jamaal’s vision and feeding plan changes
✔️ And a very sassy (but serious) lesson about pasture, dry lots, and why unlimited grass isn’t always love

Did you know the top two reasons horses are euthanized?
Both can be linked to diet and management.

As a former 510-pound donkey who foundered in all four hooves (yes, all four… and yes, it took five humans to hold me still for X-rays), Moto Moto is a BIG believer in prevention over popularity.

Sometimes dry lots aren’t mean.
Sometimes they’re lifesaving.

Head over to the blog to read Moto Moto’s full update — sass included. 🫏💬

Hello friends,

It’s me, Samson. I’m here with an update and my very best “donkey please don’t be mad” face.

Unfortunately, we do need to cancel tomorrow’s donation drop event. Three of my human pals are super sick (they sound terrible, trust me), and another one needs to attend a funeral. Even rescue humans sometimes need to rest and take care of important things.

The good news?
You are more than welcome to:
🐴 Still just drop off your donation if that works for you (no tour) 10 am to 11 am, or
📅 Reschedule for Wednesday, when my humans should be back on their feet.

We truly appreciate your understanding, your kindness, and your continued support of all of us here. I promise we don’t cancel things lightly — and I personally checked that everyone is getting extra hay during this delay.

Thank you for being the best kind of humans.

With gratitude (and a little extra donkey charm),
Samson 🫏💙
