MORNING MOMENTUM
When did being “the strong one” stop being a compliment…
and start becoming your job?
You know the woman.
Everybody calls her when something goes wrong.
She figures it out.
She takes care of everybody.
She handles the crisis.
She keeps going when she’s exhausted.
She says, “I’m fine,” because dealing with it herself feels easier than explaining it.
And somewhere along the way, everyone started believing she didn’t need anybody.
Maybe she started believing it too.
But here’s the question:
Were you always this independent… or did you learn that depending on someone else didn’t feel safe?
Sometimes the qualities we’re most proud of were built because life required them.
Strength. Independence. Control. Self reliance. Never needing anybody.
Those things may have served us incredibly well.
But something that helped you survive one chapter doesn’t have to write every chapter that comes after it.
Instead of asking:
“What’s wrong with me?”
Try asking:
“Where did I learn this… and do I still need it?”
Because sometimes the mind has moved on while the body is still responding to lessons it learned a long time ago.
This is part of why I wrote The Woman Who Remembers.
Sometimes becoming who we are isn’t about creating a new woman.
It’s about understanding who we had to become and remembering the parts of ourselves that got buried underneath it all.
And it’s a conversation I’m continuing through my writing, my work, the retreats I’m creating, and the conversations I’m bringing into rooms and onto stages.
What are you calling “just who I am” that might actually be something you learned?
Get curious.
Awareness doesn’t finish the work.
It gives us somewhere to begin.
