Savvy Racing’s focus is on the mental and emotional development of a potential young racehorse and in parallel helping them through their physical development. Horses that have the talent, skills and abilities to race will go on to the racetrack while keeping their integrity and dignity intact. We want each of our horses to have a high potential for a different career and/or useful life whether they are suited for racing or not which is why our main focus will be a strong foundation using mental and emotional development and maintenance of the horse first and foremost. Savvy Racing is currently operating two programs:
First, we are accepting outside horses from owners that are committed to our vision and mission and will utilize Savvy Racing through the entire process to ensure the integrity of the potential racehorse’s training. We currently have 3 horses in this program and are at this time looking to have 10 at any given time. Second, Savvy Racing is also acquiring horses through purchase and donation that we will prepare for their racing careers. We are currently in the process to design a syndicate program for interested parties who want to actively support us in this endeavor to make the world a better place for horses and humans in the racing industry. We currently have two horses in this program and are looking at having 6 to ten at any given time. Through the training and support we have received from Pat and Linda Parelli, Parelli Natural Horsemanship and the Parelli Community, Savvy Racing now has the opportunity to make a difference in the Race Horse Industry. It is our desire to influence the larger equine industry of varying disciplines by proving Pat’s vision that horses can perform at higher levels “through communication, psychology and understanding versus mechanics, fear and intimidation.” Besides the syndicate program we are planning other ways for you to become involved. We cannot make this difference without you!

Things were going well there until our horses were diagnosed with EPM. They have recovered and are now back in training in Hot Springs; heading to Louisiana soon.

Rhett, Lindsay, our exercise rider AND our JOCKEY Brianne Culp are fine tuning Thunder, Princess and Savvy for their first race. Unfortunately, Muchacha strained a tendon and is back home here at the farm.

We are thrilled to have Brianne with us and sharing our goal in Savvy Racing!

Stay tuned..we are getting closer….

💫 Vibrissae—the horse’s whiskers—are unlike any other type of hair, serving a crucial sensory function.

They are the only hairs on a horse that are not moulted or shed, and are rich with nerves that signal directly to specific areas of the brain for interpretation.

These specialised hairs are the very first to develop in the horse embryo and, compared to regular coat hair, are embedded much deeper in the skin.

Each vibrissa is housed in a small blood capsule that amplifies pressure, so even the slightest movement is perceived by sensory receptors. This allows the horse to process detailed information about size, texture, shape, and location.

Classified as low-threshold (high sensitivity) receptors, vibrissae respond to the smallest of stimuli.

At present, there’s no scientific data on whether horses prioritise vision, hearing, touch, or smell, unlike research available in other species such as rats and pigeons.

Gaining this knowledge would be invaluable in understanding what signals are most effective in horse training, such as comparing the speed of uptake between voice, visual, or tactile cues.
