Bedford Humane Society Virginia Non-Profit, foster-based rescue in VA. No animals are kept on site. Apply to adopt online. Each has their own story that requires a personalized approach.

Mission and Goal: Our mission and our goal at the Bedford Humane Society, Inc. is the elimination of pet overpopulation and suffering in the town and county of Bedford through education, spay/neuter programs, and pet adoptions as well as the prevention of animal cruelty and neglect through advocacy and humane education. Vision: Our vision is to build a caring community where no companion animal is born unwanted, where they are all happy, healthy, and well fed. All the animals with BHS are in foster homes so not only are they getting the care they need to get back on their feet, but also the attention and training to become a wonderful family member. While we don’t get the show animals that everyone flocks to, here they get a fresh start with us, a new beginning, and a whole new lease on life.

🐾❤️ A Beautiful Day of Blessings! ❤️🐾

What a wonderful time we had at the Blessing of the Animals, hosted by St. John's Episcopal Church! ⛪🐶

Our sweet adoptable pups, Ozzie, Bobby, and Dino, were all treated to special blessings, lots of love, and a little extra attention! 🥰

It was a beautiful gathering filled with kindness, music, fellowship, and a shared love for our four-legged friends. There's something truly special about seeing a community come together to celebrate the animals who bring so much joy into our lives. ❤️

A heartfelt THANK YOU to St. John's Episcopal Church for welcoming the Bedford Humane Society and our furry friends to such a meaningful event!

We hope the next blessing for Ozzie, Bobby, and Dino will be finding their forever families! 🏡🐾

Meet Mittens

Mittens is a small kitten given a chance to have a long healthy life. She was born from a cat lost and looking for a safe place to have her litter. A person took her in and raised the litter. Mittens was born 8/11/2026 and has the look of a Tuxedo. She is a tiny baby only 1-3/4 pounds at 7 weeks. She has a shiny black coat with white markings. This kitten is really tiny and appears to be female. We could be wrong, as she is a bit feisty and does not like being held long. She needs a home where she can be safe and stay healthy.

BHS asks that all interested fill out an application by going to bhsva.org. Her adoption fee is $125 that helps pay for her spay and medical to date. There is an additional $50 deposited for a spay contract that can be returned after proof of spay.

Mittens has been dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated, and tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

Since she is not yet spayed, Mittens is not available for adoption outside of the counties contiguous to Bedford County.

For more information, please visit our website at www.bhsva.org (opens in tab) to fill out an adoption application.

🐾 Our Animeals Pantry Needs Your Help! 🐾

The Bedford Humane Society is in need of dry dog and cat food for our Animeals program! ❤️

Animeals allows us to help families in our community who may be struggling to keep food in their pets’ bowls. A donated bag of food can make a huge difference—not only for a beloved pet, but for the family who loves them. 🐶🐱

We are currently accepting donations of:
🐾 Dry dog food
🐾 Dry cat food
📍 Donations can be dropped off anytime in the red shed at the end of our driveway or at our thrift store in Moneta.

Every bag—big or small—helps us keep pets fed, loved, and with the families who need them. ❤️

Please consider donating and share this post to help us spread the word!

Thank you for always supporting BHS and the animals in our community. 🐾❤️
