Spooky season is almost here! 👻🍫

While Halloween is full of fun for humans, it can be a tricky—and sometimes dangerous—holiday for our pets. Here are our top safety tips to keep your four-legged family members safe and stress-free this Halloween season:

🚫 Keep the treats put away: Chocolate, raisins, and sugar-free candies containing Xylitol (birch sugar) are highly toxic to pets. Keep the candy bowl high on a shelf!

🦁 Reconsider the costume: If your pet wears a costume, ensure it doesn't restrict their vision, breathing, or movement. Never leave a costumed pet unsupervised.

🚪 Create a quiet escape: Constant doorbells and strangers in strange clothes can cause severe anxiety. Keep your pets in a secure, quiet room away from the front door to prevent them from slipping outside.

🐾 Save our number: Keep our clinic phone number (914) 241-0000 handy, along with the Pet Poison Helpline, just in case of an emergency.

🐾 The Cone of Shame: Why It’s Your Pet’s Best Friend!

Let’s be honest—nobody loves wearing the cone. Whether your pup just had surgery, got stitches, or is treating a pesky skin allergy, wearing their Elizabethan collar as directed is the #1 way to prevent post-op complications.

Even a quick 5-minute break from the cone can give a clever dog enough time to chew open an incision, introduce bacteria, and turn a simple recovery into an infection.

Top tips for helping your dog adjust:

📌 Keep it snug: Make sure it fits right—not too tight, but secure so they can't slip out.

📌 Clear the path: Help them navigate doorways and water bowls while they get used to the new width.

📌 Lots of praise: Offer extra love, treats, and positive reinforcement!
