Just The Science: Sand Temperature Rivals Pavement

You'd never let your dog walk barefoot across hot asphalt, but a wide-open beach doesn't send the same warning sign, even when the sand is just as hot. Dark or fine-grained sand absorbs heat efficiently and can remain dangerously warm well into the evening, long after the air has cooled. The same hand test used for pavement also works for sand. Press the back of your hand flat against it for a full 10 to 15 seconds. If the heat forces your hand up before time's up, it's too hot for paw pads.

160 subscribers, and now sitting at #51 Rising in Science on Substack.

I started Inside the Canine Mind, LLC because I believed dog owners deserved real science, not oversimplified myths passed down for generations. “Science your dog deserves” is my motto. That has been the goal from day one, and I did not expect to see it validated this quickly, or this publicly.

Thank you to every single one of you who subscribed, read, shared, and took the time to ask questions. This growth is yours as much as it is mine. I’m truly grateful!
