Pet of the Week: Meet Nelly 🤍

Nelly is an 8 year, 10 month old female Shepherd weighing 68.2 pounds. Her adoption fee is $79 and she is heartworm positive, dog friendly, cat friendly and kid friendly. She has been in our care for 240 days.

Nelly is a senior by technicality… you know, because of her age. Her soul, however, belongs to a much younger dog. This girl likes to PLAY. She’ll romp around and roll in the grass until she’s decided she has had enough fun, and then it’s time to head inside and find a good spot to lay down and relax.

She has also gotten a little… chunky. 😅 Between all the treats and lovings from staff and volunteers, Nelly has clearly been very well cared for. We know, we know… she’s on a diet now. We’re scaling back the “just because” treats so she can get healthier, and while we know it’s for the best, we aren’t necessarily thrilled about having to say no to that sweet face either. 😂

After 240 days, Nelly deserves a home where she can spend her days playing in the grass, soaking up all the love and then curling up for a well earned nap.

She may be a senior on paper, but this girl still has plenty of life and fun left in her. Come meet Nelly and give this chunky, playful, grass rolling girl the forever home she has been waiting for. 🐾

🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day from the hardest working crew around! 🇺🇸

While everyone else is enjoying a long weekend, our four legged crew is hard at work perfecting naps, supervising snack distribution, chasing toys, requesting belly rubs, and generally making sure the humans stay on their toes. 😂 It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

🐾❤️ WHAT AN AMAZING WEEK AT HSSET! ❤️🐾

We’re celebrating 11 adoptions and welcoming 23 new animals into our care this week! Every adoption represents a life finding a loving family, while every intake represents an animal who now has a safe place to land, receive care, and have a second chance. 🐶🐱

Right now, we have 115 animals in our custody — 43 dogs and 72 cats — all counting on our staff, volunteers, fosters, adopters, and supporters.

Behind every number is a story. A dog waiting for someone to choose them. A cat hoping for a quiet place to call home. An animal who may have been overlooked, abandoned, or surrendered but is now getting the care and compassion they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who opened their home through adoption or fostering, donated, volunteered, shared our posts, provided supplies, or simply cheered us on. Your support makes it possible for us to keep saying YES to animals in need. ❤️

🇺🇸 Labor Day Weekend Hours 🇺🇸

Just a quick heads up that we’ll be closed Sunday, September 6th and Monday, September 7th for Labor Day weekend.

We’ll be open our normal hours Friday and Saturday, and back to our normal schedule Tuesday!

We might be done with our Clear the Shelters Big Event, but we’re not done trying to Clear the Shelters just yet! 🐾

The national Clear the Shelters campaign officially runs through September 10, so we decided to keep our 55% off regular adoption fees going through the end of the campaign!

That means if you’ve been thinking about adopting but didn’t make it to our big event, you haven’t missed your chance. ❤️

We still have SO many dogs and cats here waiting for their people, and we’d love nothing more than to see those kennels getting a little emptier over the next few days.

And just like always, pets with sponsored $0 adoption fees will remain $0.

All of our pets go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-eligible vaccinations, so we’ve already taken care of some of those big first steps for you.

🐾 FOUND DOG — HELP US GET HER HOME! 🐾

This sweet girl was found off Sherwood Dr. in Beaumont near the Silos Shopping Center, roughly one week ago. She is incredibly friendly and appears to be someone’s beloved pet. We’re hoping that sharing her photo will help us locate her family. ❤️

Pet of the Week: Meet Nala 🥹

Nala is STRONG. Like, 72 pounds of strong. She pulls a little on leash, but if we break it down; she’s an old lady who still has her peanut butter and protein powder before knocking out her push ups for the day. She’s got some life left in those muscles 😂

And she has SO much love left to give. Wet smooches are included, obviously.

Nala has been with us for about 60 days now and somehow… not a single adoption appointment. She got 24 hours to taste the home life with a foster before being returned. That’s why we have our foster to adopt program… So folks can see who is their exact match. But with a smile like hers?! We don’t understand it either.

Nala is dog friendly, no cats (yuck), and she is looking for a semi retirement home. She’s 8 years old, but don’t let that fool you. This girl still has plenty left to give the world and she is READY to give it to somebody. She’ll be a foster to adopt pup so you have a whole week to bring her home and make sure you can keep up with this old gal.

She’s already spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her age eligible vaccinations, so all she needs now is someone to take her home. ❤️

And during Clear the Shelters, there’s no standard adoption fee! Nala is currently listed at $59, but our 55% off adoption fees have been extended through the campaign.

🚨 WE NEED A FOSTER FOR SIRACHA 🚨

The rest of Siracha’s litter is doing great, but this little lady is still spicy. Like… REALLY spicy. 😂 She’s just not making the progress we’d hoped to see in the shelter environment.

We’re thinking a quiet home environment with someone who knows their way around a tiny demon might be exactly what she needs… a priest perhaps? Sometimes these babies just need a little extra patience, consistency and one on one attention to realize that humans aren’t the enemy.

So… does anyone know someone capable of taming a lion? 🦁😂

Siracha needs a foster who is willing to put in the time and let her figure out that she’s safe, loved, and (maybe) doesn’t have to choose violence every time someone walks by. If she wasn’t just a baby, she could be a good barn cat but she’s hardly 3 months old.
