Q: What is the difference between a veterinary technician and a veterinary technologist?

A: A Technician has earned an Associate degree through either an accelerated or 2 year program and a Technologist has earned a Bachelor's degree.
Our Reba and Bethany are technicians and Erica is a technologist!

Q: Are LVT (licensed), RVT (registered) and CVT (certified) the same thing?
A: In short, yes. School and national exam requirements are the same and in clinical practice they have the same responsibilities.
The title depends on the state the license was earned. *Usually* LVT indicates a state where state level licensing requirements are stricter. RVT is in the middle of difficulty and CVT is the least strict state requirement.
Techs hold on to their title from their first state of licensing but usually adopt the current state title for ease!

Corey's Q&A of the day: To be or not to be....a vet tech?
Q: So what makes a credentialed veterinary technician different?

A: To be given the distinction of technician in most states you have to graduate from an accredited program and pass a national exam while taking continuing education through their carrer.
There are only a few things techs cannot do: diagnose an animal, give a prognosis, perform surgery causing a permanent change, and prescribe medications.
Techs aid in diagnostics, perform complex procedures and SO much more.

So in short, Corey says: Yes, be a technician.
