Board and train is not a training method. It is a service format.
I have recently seen board and train programs discussed as though they all rely on the same philosophy and tools. In reality, approaches can vary significantly between professionals, which is why researching any program is so important.
At MusselMutts, our approach has been shaped through hands on experience, working alongside seasoned trainers, extensive research, and continued learning. We focus on positive reinforcement, enrichment, predictable routines, individualized care, and carefully managed socialization when appropriate for each dog. We do not use e collars, choke chains, prong collars, physical corrections, fear, or force.
We have watched shy and uncertain dogs gradually become more comfortable, engaged, and confident in our home environment. We respect each dog’s communication and recognize that every dog progresses differently.
Every pet parent should choose the training direction that best fits their dog, schedule, goals, needs, and personal research. Whatever approach they consider, we encourage owners to ask about the methods, tools, daily environment, communication, and support provided.
The quality of a program should be evaluated by the individual methods, environment, transparency, experience, and care behind it, rather than its service format alone.
