So many of you have reached out asking how you can help with Cannoli’s final expenses, and that kindness means more to us than you know. ❤️ Since so many have asked, we’ve attached our Venmo link to make it easy for anyone who would like to contribute.

We’ve also created a special Cannoli memorial T-shirt. Proceeds will help offset the extraordinary costs of helping our dear friend cross over peacefully, while giving those who loved him a little piece of Cannoli to carry with them. 🐴❤️ Please see comments for the shirt design. Shirts are $15.00 and you can use the Venmo link to pay for the shirt. ♥️

If you’d like a shirt, just comment Adult or Youth and your size (S, M, or L) below.

There is absolutely no expectation. Your love, stories, photos, and memories of our sweet boy have already meant more to us than we could ever say. ❤️

Venmo is a digital wallet that lets you make and share payments with friends. You can easily split the bill, cab fare, or much more. Download the iOS or Android app or sign up on Venmo.com today.

It’s been 24 hours since we said goodbye to Cannoli, and the sentiments from this community have completely overwhelmed me. 🥹♥️

This horse meant so much to so many people, and reading all of the memories and seeing the pictures you’ve been sharing has been incredible. This video is one of my favorites because Cannoli is lying in his sunny spot on a good day—the very same spot he chose to cross over yesterday.

Most of you don’t know the whole story of his final morning, but I think I’m ready to share it. Maybe telling it is part of the healing.

A lot of you know that Cannoli was a little like the boy who cried wolf. 😂 So many times we thought, “This is it. He’s not going to get back up.” And every single time, he would surprise us, get back on his feet, and go on doing great for another few months.

We had repeated this process so many times that my daughter and I actually had a routine. Whenever I found him lying down and something didn’t look quite right, I would call her and tell her, “Cannoli’s down.”

She would casually respond, “Okay, fine. Do a life check.”

I’d check him. He’d be fine. And life would go on.

Except yesterday.

Yesterday he didn’t get up. And he didn’t eat his breakfast.

We knew.

We called the vet immediately, and she got here within about an hour. We called several friends that had requested to be present at the end. While we waited, Cannoli was uncomfortable and rolling around, but no matter how hard he tried, he simply couldn’t get himself up. We sat with him and waited.

When the vet arrived, we told her, “Please hurry. He’s really uncomfortable.”

She came as quickly as she could into the run-in shed, needle in hand. And in about the amount of time it took me to say, “Can you please explain the process before you do anything?”…

Cannoli shot up like a bat out of hell. 😂🥹

This horse who could not get up suddenly RAN through the dry lot. He ran around it a few times, literally opened the gate, and headed out into the big pasture like we hadn’t seen him move in years.

And then he went straight to his sunny spot, and collapsed.

His spot. The place he chose on good days and bad days. The place where he loved to lie in the warmth of the sun.

Mike and Angus were there.

Cannoli made it to them, laid himself down in his favorite sunny spot, and it was almost as if he said,

“Okay. Now I’m ready.”

And that is where we said goodbye. 💔

I don’t know what gave that old boy the strength for one final run. Maybe he knew exactly where he wanted to be. Maybe he wanted to be with his friends. Maybe he simply wanted his last moments to be somewhere familiar, warm and safe.

Whatever it was, Cannoli got to choose his spot.

So when you watch this old video of him on a good day, don’t think about yesterday. Look at him lying there in the sunshine on one of his good days and remember that this was his happy place.

And in the end, it was exactly where he wanted to be. 🌤️🐴♥️

Today, we had to say goodbye to our beloved Cannoli. 💔

Cannoli was 30 years old, and we were blessed to have rescued him four years ago. In those four years, he became so much more than a rescue. He became family.

Today, we gave him the final gift we could give him—a peaceful goodbye surrounded by the people who loved him.

In keeping with tradition, we saved a piece of his beautiful tail so the other horses in heaven will know what a good horse he was. His halter now hangs empty. Two small pieces of a very big life and a very special boy we will never forget.

The barn feels different tonight. There is an empty space where Cannoli should be, and an even bigger one in our hearts.

Run free, sweet boy. No more sore feet. No more pain. Just green pastures, strong legs, and all the grass you could ever want. 🌈🐴

Four years was nowhere near long enough, but we are so grateful that Cannoli got to spend them with us—safe, loved, and home.

We love you, Cannoli. Always. ❤️

Ever wonder just how much our amazing supporters, volunteers, and local food bank leftovers contribute every month?❤️

For once, we completely ran out of produce—ONE meal before our weekly pickup. 🤦‍♀️ So, off to the store we went!

Zoom in on that receipt… almost $20 for ONE meal for the pigs, ducks, guinea pigs, and the rest of our produce-loving crew. 🐷🦆🐹

Now do the math… 😳 That’s about $600 a month in produce!

Needless to say, we were quickly reminded just how lucky we are to have these food donations. Every bag of apples, head of lettuce, box of veggies, and leftover piece of produce you send our way truly adds up.

So please know—we appreciate those food donations more than you probably realize. Our animals thank you, and so do we! ❤️

After a day this HOT… doesn’t everybody want to be this piggy right now? 😂🐷💦 Find a cool mud puddle, plop yourself down, and let the world wait. This is definitely the way to beat the heat! ☀️❤️

This is Emily. ❤️🐴

She’s been volunteer riding with me for the past three years, helping keep Angus in shape and helping with his training along the way. In that time, I’ve watched her grow into a confident, thoughtful, and conscientious rider.

Unfortunately, there’s one thing I can’t teach her to do—stop growing! 😂 Emily has outgrown our Angus pony and is officially moving on to a new barn with bigger horses and new opportunities to build on everything she’s learned here.

I’m going to miss seeing her every week, but I’m so proud of how far she’s come and excited to see where riding takes her next. I’ll be cheering her on every step of the way! ❤️
