Toby continues his rehabilitation — now working without the muzzle and pushing beyond his comfort zone by engaging in more diverse social situations. Both handler and K9 performed well in a high-distraction, high-stress environment.

The handler effectively utilized the “leave it” command, applying light yet firm corrections to ensure clear communication. This approach not only prevented any deterioration of the bond between handler and K9 but also strengthened it. By guiding the K9 through visibly stressful situations—without allowing avoidance behaviors—the handler helped build Toby’s confidence and ability to navigate real-world scenarios.

Handlers and K9s demonstrate off-lead sit and stay exercises with movement and distance changes, showcasing proper confirmation of commands using clear communication when dogs reasonably assume they should break the sit and follow their handlers.

During this session, Ramsey showed clear progress in his training. Although I didn’t capture a video of the first climb onto the obstacle without distractions, the improvement from that point to successfully recalling him over the obstacle with high-level distractions is impressive.

The handler demonstrated better leash management and applied pressure more effectively, helping to communicate clearly with Ramsey. The use of appropriate body language and consistent verbal commands also supported Ramsey’s focus and response despite the distractions.

Overall, this session highlights Ramsey’s growing confidence and the handler’s improving skills in managing cues and the environment to achieve reliable results.

Instead, this working-line, high-drive German Shepherd puppy presents with overexcitement and a lack of understanding around boundaries, rather than true behavioral dysfunction.In situations like this, a stable, well-balanced pack can play a critical role in providing subtle social cues and modeling appropriate behavior, helping the puppy begin to self-regulate. Following initial exposure to clear canine communication, structured outings—such as controlled walks in the park where no interaction with other dogs or people is permitted—can reinforce neutrality. This teaches the dog that not every encounter is an opportunity for overstimulation or play, helping to establish calm focus and impulse control in public settings.

The Cane Corso is a powerful and guardian-oriented breed that requires consistent structure, firm boundaries, and ongoing engagement. Without proper guidance, they can become difficult to manage and, in some cases, present safety risks—this is not a breed suited for inexperienced or passive ownership.Here, the puppy is establishing a strong training foundation, with the entire family actively involved in the process—an essential factor for long-term behavioral success. Ramsey is already demonstrating solid proficiency in heel, sit, and stay commands, even when working with multiple handlers, which is an excellent indicator of early progress and reliability.
