Our new little flying squirrel intake from yesterday.

She made it through the night and even managed to squirm her way out of her pouch.
The meloxicam is helping. Still no movement in back legs but she’s using the front ones just fine. She’s on half strength formula now and is eating well.

We even have an eye open and she tipped the scale at 20 grams this morning.
I decided to name her Matilda, meaning “Mighty in battle”. She’s a fighter for sure with a strong will to live.

Love me a quick rescue! It’s also pretty fun to find and rescue something that you see rather than it being something called in. It makes it a little more personal and intimate, ya know?

Looks like a pretty bad concussion/ TBI with skull exposure and the first 9 or so flight feathers are ripped out of one wing.

This one will be with us for a while until new feathers grow in or we get the chance to do feather imping. (Feather transplant)

Me- Looking for “suspicious person” in the woods.

Suspicious man- trots away down the road like he knew he wasn’t suppose to be in the woods. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Me- Hearing “HAAALLLLPPPPP” in squirrel language while standing next to a tree.

Who brings the baby squirrels home? Also me. They’ve been about 24 hours without nursing, it’s safe to say momma has passed.

Reference: I run a wildlife rescue and I’m a cop, so it only makes sense if you know.

Their names are Forrest and Dash in honor of their runner that led them to me. 😅
