Letâs talk about why we ride. â¤ď¸đ´
At the top of the list? Because we love horses.
Itâs part of who we are. Horses bring us joy, peace, purpose, and connection. They challenge us, humble us, and somehow make us better humans. Thatâs where it starts.
Yes, many of us eventually want to improve. We set goals, chase ribbons, master new skills, or prove somethingâto ourselves more than anyone else. But that usually isnât where the journey begins. It grows from a much simpler place: love.
I also want to speak to the adult amateur rider.
The moms. The dads. The spouses. The college students. The professionals working 40+ hours a week. The caregivers. The people juggling kids, sports, homework, grocery runs, house projects, aging parents, and everything else life throws at them.
Iâve been there.
Before I owned Blue Horse Farm, I worked a full-time professional career while raising a family. If I rode twice a week, it was a good week. And you know what?
That was enough.
During my saddle ergonomist practicals, I interviewed many working adult riders. Most of them rode once a week. They werenât less committed. They were simply living full lives while making room for something they loved.
Life has seasons.
Riding has seasons.
There will be times when youâre riding five days a week, and times when youâre lucky to ride once. Neither season defines you as an equestrian.
So take the pressure off.
You donât have to become the âperfect riderâ this month, this year, or even this decade. Horsemanship is a lifetime pursuit. We build it one ride, one lesson, one conversation, one mistake, and one small victory at a time.
Never let comparison steal the joy that brought you here in the first place.
Because in the end, itâs not just about the progress.
Itâs about the horse waiting for you at the gate.
The deep breath before you swing into the saddle.
The quiet moments no one else sees.
Thatâs why we ride. â¤ď¸
