From the Heart of Kathy Everly:
Eternal Destiny, better known as Bud, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on March 24, 2026. In his 30 years at Rockin W Ranch, Bud had become a favorite with all the riding students. In his younger days he qualified for the State 4-H competition year after year, performing in showmanship, western pleasure, hunt seat under saddle, ranch classes, and dressage. In the last 8 years his kind patience and quiet demeanor made riding a safe introduction for Special Olympians and beginners of all ages.
We have lost track of the numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals, not counting the hundreds of ribbons, Bud has helped his riders earn over the years. We’ve watched Bud on numerous occasions, both here at the ranch and at competitions, make the decision to do the course correctly even when the rider gave him a wrong cue, assuring that they placed in the class or confidently complete the pattern.
Bud was especially a favorite of mine because he was a grandson of my first horse, Lucki Ladi. He carried 4 generations of our family during his lifetime—me, my sons, my grandchildren, and my great grandchildren. He was a no nonsense horse who knew his job and did it well even if his rider didn’t.
We were honored to have shared our lives with such an honest, caring horse.
To honor Bud’s legacy and the joy he brought to us all, we are creating a dedicated prayer garden at the ranch as a permanent memorial.
We envision this space as a peaceful retreat featuring a trellis and a stone prayer bench.
If you would like to help bring this project to life, we are gratefully accepting contributions of supplies or materials. For information on supply needs or upcoming work days, please reach out via Messenger or contact Kathy or Cowboy Everly directly.
Please leave your favorite memories, stories and photos of Bud in the comments. He will be deeply missed.
