Urge Your Rhode Island Legislators to Support the Parrot Bill!
What RI H7334 Would Do:
💥 Ban the sale of parrots in pet stores sourced from breeders and brokers
💥 Pet stores may still offer parrots from animal rescue organizations or shelters
A misleading post is circulating the internet, saying that voting no will “protect pet parakeets.” Don’t be swayed by misinformation! This bill does NOT ban pet ownership or take away rights from parakeet guardians. Instead, it takes the pressure off of rescues, who are over capacity and overwhelmed by the captive parrot problem.
Pet store birds are often sourced from cruel and abusive bird mills, just like puppies. They are often in poor health, housed and fed inappropriately, and sold to underprepared impulse-buyers who will then keep them locked in a cage or rehome them.
This bill will allow rescues and pet stores to parter with each other to find more homes for birds already in the pet trade, helping us all be a part of the solution rather than the problem.
Contact your RI legislators TODAY and ask them to support H7334. The hearing is this week, so we have to act fast!
