Without further ado, allow us to introduce...

HP Wingman “Eros”
5-year-old Black Varnish Gypsy Vanner Gelding
Just over 14 hh

Eros is a striking Gypsy Vanner with all the looks, charm, and personality you could want in a future show or trail partner. He was started later to allow proper growth and development and has proven to be a confident, curious, and willing young horse.

He has been thoughtfully exposed to a variety of environments and obstacles, including busy roads, large hula hoops, tarps, bridges, and trail settings. Eros is brave, playful, and genuinely enjoys learning new things.

Under saddle, he has a lovely walk, trot, a solid stop and backup, and is currently developing consistency in his canter. He steps willingly into the canter with a smooch and has never offered any bad behavior—just honest effort from this sturdy little tank as he builds strength and balance.

Eros knows his verbal cues (walk, trot, canter, whoa) on the line. He stands tied, bathes, stands well for the farrier, saddles quietly, and stands patiently at the mounting block. He has been ridden in the arena, on trails, and along busy roads, and is consistently a pleasure to work with. He has a great sense of humor and a knack for making you smile.

Eros currently has 90 days under saddle and is taking his training in stride. His price is negotiable to the right home but will increase as his training continues. Don’t miss the opportunity to bring this special gelding home!

Top things we HATE to hear as c**t starters: 🐴

1. “I would do it myself I just can’t afford to get hurt”

And you think we can!? This is how we make a living, how we pay our bills and feed our children. 🤦‍♀️ We cant afford to get hurt either BUT we have the skills and program to do this in the most successful and safest way possible.

2. “I would do it myself it’s just I don’t bounce like I used to”

Yeah neither do we, and as professional c**t starters we actually don’t hit the ground very often and we hope to keep it that way (Knock on wood).

3. “I don’t need all that fancy stuff, I just need someone to ride the bucks out for a few rides”

You’ll need to find a different program. If all you care about is a crash test dummy be upfront about that and see what c**t starters call you back. Starting c**ts is hard enough on our bodies we don’t get paid enough to just hop on and see what your horse feels like doing to us.

4. “I did all the groundwork already so you can just start riding - because I can only afford 30 days training”

Thank you for trying to prepare your c**t, but I will still be going through my checklist on the ground to be sure your c**t is prepared and a first ride will be successful. We do not offer 30 day c**t starts as it’s just not enough time for your c**t to get a foundation built that will last when you take them home.

5. “I’m a super novice rider and I can’t wait to start riding my first 2yr old! Is 60 days enough?”

No it’s not, even the quietest c**ts need TIME to build a solid foundation that won’t crumble. They will learn so much while they are being started but it takes time for skills to become concrete, and for a horse to be confident making up for mistakes of novice riders.

So as we head into c**t starting season, give your starter the time they need, don’t rush the process and dont treat their body or skills like they are less than.

I think we are lulled into a false sense of thinking when it comes to drafts and draft crosses, myself included. We've all heard how docile they are, how unbothered the giants are by most things, that 'they're too big to worry about something so little'.
At the end of the day, they are still horses. Still prey animals driven by fight or flight but have learned to cope with freeze and fawn. To watch this horse go from frantic, expecting to be reprimanded for every 'wrong' move and in an almost constant worried state, to curious and willing to try is what makes it easy to get out of bed and do this everyday ♡

Last year you may have caught our video of this mare's pick up assist feature. This year she's tackling all new challenges and making me proud everyday. We completed 24 miles of trail over two days, pulling up the rear as safety rider and Sunday's trail clean up crew. Pearl is one of a kind ♡

Unique markings, willing personality, and very mild tempered- he truly is all that and a bag of chips!
'Cinch' leads, ties, loads, picks up his feet, has had some groundwork, stands to be bathed and fly sprayed. Both te**is are down and he doesn't act 'study'. He would make an excellent addition to someone's breeding program or a flashy gelding for the show pen!
